Match process stalling out at end

I've been using iTunes Match for about a year and a half and have started experiencing a new problem in the last couple of days. I've added a few new tracks to my library over the last couple of days and have attempted to "Update iTunes Match." However, the matching process is stalling out at the end. It looks like it's just about to finish but then it never does. I have downloaded the most up-to-date version of iTunes, I have stopped and restarted the "Update iTunes Match" process numerous times. I have closed and reopened iTunes several times. I have restarted my computer and started over. Etc. Etc. and the same problem keeps occurring. Last night, I let the matching process continue overnight and it still had not finished in the morning. I am at my wit's end at this point. It's only 11 new songs that I'm trying to get iTunes to Match. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to resolve this problem? Thanks!

I have two extra laptops that get little to no use at this point. One is running iTunes 10.7.0.21 and the other is running iTunes 11.1.3.8.

Like my primary computer (which is running the most up-to-date version of iTunes), I'm currently unable to "Match" music with either of these extra computers. As I mentioned before, it's my belief the version of iTunes utilized has no bearing on this "main problem" that has arisen in the last few days.

She had me run the "Run Diagnostics" utility on under help. I believe engineering wants to see the results of network connectivity, which my system passed.

She also had me try to update match with virus protection uninstalled. Had me turn off iTunes Match on all other devices. No matter what, I am stuck on step 2 with 84 songs remaining to check.

Hi,

Since June 6, I have been able to upload around 160 with another 230 matched. The source of most of the upload files were CD rips, mainly classical music with the individual movements being joined (so were never going to match). This process seemed to take forever, sometimes stalling either at checking or uploading stage.

I added the tracks a small number at a time. The problems that I encountered have already been mentioned is this thead i.e. The Automatic match process did not work nor did selecting "add to iCloud" work. Hasn't worked for me since early April.

What worked for me:

  1. Stopping match process if automatic scan has started and then selected "update itunes match" or
  2. Selecting "update itunes match" before automatic scan.
  3. If match process has stalled, stop match process. Hold shift key (PC) or option key (Mac) whilst turning off match. Close itunes the relaunch, then turn on Match, selecting add this computer.
  4. If none of the above steps worked, I deleted the tracks with "waiting" iCloud status then Held shift key (PC) or option key (Mac) whilst turning off match. Close itunes the relaunch, then turn on Match, selecting add this computer. If the match process now completes, readd the "waiting" tracks and select "update itunes match"

After succesfully uploading the 160 tracks, I added the other 230 tracks in 4 seperate batches by selecting "update itunes match". The Source of most of the tracks was from Amazon and I expected them to match - all bar 7 matched and the overall process was reasonably quick.

Until Apple comes up with solution, I trust that the above suggestions help.

I appreciate your suggestions/involvement, Jim. However, I have tried your method and it does not work. I agree that it once worked (I've done something similar in the past). However, you do not assert that it worked yesterday or two days ago, when people began to post complaints. If the Match upload server has stopped functioning in the past two days, then experiences from two weeks ago will not necessarily indicate what someone will experience now!

I began to encounter the stalling/non-uploading problem just a few days ago. Have you tried to upload new songs in the last day or so, using your method? I ask not to critique your suggestion/method, but also because it will help to establish whether the problem is a general one (all Match users affected) or just a portion...

I agree with azurehum. I think it's pretty well established now that a large number of people started experiencing the same problem approximately 3 days ago around or after the time of my original post (6/10/14 at 12:51pm). I would be very curious to hear if Jim has had any success uploading music in the last day or two. I fear that successful uploads on June 6th are not a roadmap to solving the current problem.

Hi folks - just throwing my hat into the ring as well.

Issues with iTunes Match happened 2 days ago, much like many of the stories here. Issues occur with ANY new item attempting to add to Match, including m4a and mp3 created through GarageBand. Match process stalls at Step 2 and does not complete.

I've tried the control-click methods described above, restarting, re-authorizing, etc. and simply have come to my own conclusion this has to be on Apple's end. Interested to see what comes out of this.

Hi,

I have been having the current issues since June 6.

I can confirm that I have had matches & uploads on the 10th and 11th.

My summary:

June 7 - 15 Uploads

June 8 - 39 Uploads, 11 Matches

June 9 - 36 Uploads

June 10 - 35 Uploads, 10 Matches

June 11 - 40 Uploads, 197 Matches.

The uploads caused most hassle but the final 197 match were processed quickly, having selected update match.

I don't have anything to add to match at present. I am in the UK but I don't believe the problem for me has been solved.

PS I have a large library 33,510 (24969 Non Itunes tracks)

I too am having problems adding non-iTunes acquired mp3's to Match.

Spoke to senior advisor. Ran through milieu of ineffective solutions inclusing option key quiting, re-adding computer, deleting waiting files, re-adding files, AAC conversion---bottom line nothing works and they took some error logs from my macbook pro.

Pretty sure this is in Appl'e court.

Senior tech put this on priority after i sent sa link to this thread to her.

Wait a few days, my guess is Apple will fix it.

Jim,

Thank you for taking the time to write out the solution that worked for you. Unfortunately, those steps didn't work for me. I couldn't even get a batch of 5 songs to upload. Yesterday, using similar methods, I couldn't get a single song uploaded. I made an appointment to talk to Apple Support, primarily to let them know that there is a serious problem going on.

Hi All.

Just to update everyone. Starting to seem some strange occurances.

1. On the good end: An album that I downloaded last night on MacBook from Amazon - has suddenly showed up and was able to download on iMac in Office. Whats strange is I specifically didn't even try to match it as Match has been so useless recently.

2. On the bad end: I tried to match multiple other things thinking suddenly things were working. Nope. Can't get anything further to match. Same as before. Must've been some sort of fluke.

3. On the very bad end: In the middle of all this I notice that an older album that was matched a year ago, suddenly showed up with multiple tracks "available" for download. Now whats strange is that the tracks that show as available are duplicates of already existing track names - but the music is completely different music. For instance, the album is an The Replacements album, but the songs that show available have the correct track names, but the music itself is from Aaron Neville album - an album that I also own. So somehow match has duplicated track names of one album, but chosen music from another album.

I'm really hoping that #3 doesn't represent some further corruption thats happening to Match. Imagine if suddenly all your tracks were duplicated with tracks of the same name but different music! If that happens, I will dump Match in a heartbeat and maybe go with Amazon's service.
