Jun 14, 2014 2:09 PM in response to ecdalton20by XTheLancerX,★HelpfulBoth devices must be updated to at least iOS 5.0. You can find out the iOS version in Settings>General>About>Version.
After you have verified that you are running iOS 5.0 or later, make your way back into Settings, scroll down, and click Messages. Make sure both iOS devices (your iPhone and her iPad) are signed into their respective Apple IDs in this section, and then make sure that under "Send and Receive", that the addresses are different. If people try to send iMessage texts to you (iMessage is the messaging system that works between all iOS devices and Mac) and you have the same "Send and Receive" address as someone else, both you and that other person will get the message, which can pose to be very annoying and problematic. Hope this helps.

Jun 14, 2014 3:08 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby ecdalton20,Ok, thanks so much for the help BTW... I have her apple ID and she is signed in. How, on my phone, (4S) do I send her a message? There is no option that I can find to send an iMessage to someone. Keep in mind that I am a novice so speak slowly and clearly haha. Thanks again

Jun 14, 2014 3:14 PM in response to ecdalton20by Meg St._Clair,You use the Messages app. Make sure your mother is in your contacts and that you have her Apple ID in the contact. Open up Messages. Tap the compose button (the icon is in the upper right corner and looks like a tiny paper and pencil). Start typing your mother's name into the To: field. Select her from the choices that pop up. Type the message in the field at the bottom of the screen. Tap send.
