Mail still constantly asks for Gmail password

I have been unable to use Mail for over a year now due to the fact that no matter what I do it asks me for my Gmail password every two minutes. I thought I would give it a try after upgrading to Yosemite Beta and I see it is still the same situation. Hard to believe that after YEARS of this known issue there is still no fix. Mail is unusable in this state and it forces me to us ***whisper*** Outlook ***gag***.

At least on Mavericks I could use Google Chat in Messages but that functionality is broken now in Yosemite.

I have deleted every Google related item in my keychain, deleted and reinstalled the account, said really nice things to my mac and it still won't cooperate. Now when I try to add the account In Yosemite it will only connect with Contacts and Calendar and can't even make the connection with Mail, Messages or Notes.

Strange because my Google Drive sync works just fine!

Anyone know a solution for this or are we going to wait a few more years for this remain unfixed?

Any help you can provide would be great. I would love to use Mail someday!

Been having this same problem for a few months. It was intermittent -- would not work and then work again -- but now, at least on my iMac, it seems to be persisting. I can receive my gmail just fine on my iPhone and iPad, and can view it as webmail, but it will not download to Mail on my iMac. Every one of the proposed solutions in this thread seem to include deleting the account from the computer. Here's my question: If I do so, will I lose the mail I have sorted into folders in Mailboxes? I am self-employed, and very diligently put all mail I need to keep in folders. I cannot lose this stuff!

Help!! Will be so appreciated...🙂

I have an odd form of this problem. I have three devices using the same gmail account through the mail app: a MBP, an iPad, and an iPhone. All at the latest and greatest versions of their OSs. Only on the iPhone does this repeated request for signon occur. The other oddity is, the iPhone has forever had a "name" I gave it (which shows up in "About" in General Settings). When I signon to gmail again, Google alerts me to a suspicious signon from a device named "iPhone" (at my IP) and says the phone with the name shown in "About" hasn't been active/synced for a month. Curious. (FWIW, gmail is used for mail, contacts, and calendar, and the flow continues.)

i'm not sure what to do. For tonight, I'm taking the step suggested earlier, allowing access by "less secure" apps. (Google sent a robo-gripe about that, too, of course.) I'll follow this thread in hopes of learning something better.
