I am updating to ios 7.1.2. It downloaded, rebooted and stuck on the Apple screen with the progress bar around 1/3 done.

I can't switch the device off by holding the power button. Don't know what to do. Please Help!!

I'm facing the same issues with both my iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S. Both have been updating since last night and when I woke up this morning, the iPhone 4S had only completed about 2/3 and the iPhone 5S had completed about 1/3. From the time I started the update, it's been more than 8 hours.

I also had the problem on both iPhone 5 and iPad, but not being as bright as you guys I left the iPad all day plugged into the power but it never moved at all. Then unplugged from the power, and when the battery ran out, charged it up again and all was well with 7.1.2 installed. About a week later I updated the software on the iPhone in the hope that Apple would have addressed this issue, but the same thing happened again. If so many of us are having this problem, why aren't Apple doing something about it ?

Year after year I update our iPhone's (3 of them) in my family, and not once have I had an issue. Without even an after thought, I updated my phone this morning and came back to it to find the iTunes logo on it. When I connect it to my computer, it wants to restore the phone and erase everything.

7 weeks ago, my son was born. And I have many videos and pics on it which deleting IS NOT an option for me.

I called Apple who told me that there is nothing that can be done. They booked an appointment with an Apple store which is 30 miles away. So me and my family went there today. The Genius guy said that I had already lost my data and said that he gets about 3 people a week coming into the store with the same issue. He said that because the update had downloaded via WIFI, instead of being done via iTunes, any corruption would not be detected in the same way and that once the update had applied, a failure would then require a restore.

I have tried various things such as DFU mode and non DFU mode. I have tried using 3rd party software and nothing is working.

Can you begin to imagine how pi%^ed off I am write now? What apple have done is released an update and that update has caused me to lose 7 weeks of valuable videos and pictures of my newborn son!! These updates are for the operating system and I do NOT accept that this update should cause me to lose ANY data whatsoever. And they should certainly provide a recovery facility for this. It is the equivalent of a Windows upgrade failing and then Microsoft saying that I have to erase my hard disk to make it work again. Which is of course nonsense and we all know it.

Apple are going to take responsibility for this for sure. Obviously they will try to say that I should have read the Terms. Actually, there is this law in the UK called, "Unfair contract terms." Nobody in their right mind would ever bother to read through these terms. I had never even occured to me that an update would cause this situation.

To Apple Support. I would suggest you release a download fix for this, as I will certainly be taking about a CCJ against apple for causing this and doing completely nothing to resolve it. It is totally unacceptable!

I'm reading this thread trying to get a grasp on how to get my iPhone 5s working. I woke up this morning and on the settings icon was a notification saying that the 7.1.2 update is available but I ignored it because the wifi in my house is bad so I thought I could update it at work. So I was on Facebook messenger and had just received a message and the phone shut off. When i tried to restart it the phone just kept looping the reboot process flashing the apple logo so i left it on charge as i went for a shower. I came back about a half hour later and it was working fine. So i tried to update it when i got to work and there didn't seem to be a problem while it was downloading but now it's gone into the reboot loop. Its been like this for about 4 hours. And i did hard reboot it, that didn't change a thing. when i plug it into my mac now it keeps saying the iPhone has been disconnected. This is awful. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just happened to me, as well. I did not do the update OTA - I did it by USB connected to iTunes.

I always wait quite some time after updated software comes out in case a common issue is reported. I hadn't seen anything in the press about this, and so I assumed there were no major issues.

I did just see a "flash" of the update bar. But it's been over an hour.

As for reboot prior update - if we are to do that, why wouldn't Apple tell us to do it? I did do a backup prior to update, and I always put it in Airplane mode in case I might get a call. (I don't think it is a problem after a certain point, but I have had an incoming call cancel an update in the past.)

Home/power does work, after doing that I get a new update bar briefly and then my home screen. It is apparently running 7.1.2.
