I have a Iphone 5 and I'm having the same exact problem "NO SIGNAL" I've been back and forth between Verizon and Apple. It is clearly a software issue since it started when I downloaded the upgrade. The only solution that Apple had was to sell me a new phone. Apple couldn't fix the problem. I've only had this phone for a year and a half! I guess I'll have to go android. I've always bought Apple products. Very disappointed!

It's not surprising that the battery life goes down when the modem is struggling.

I've worked in mobile phone software for a few years. This is what happens:

The modem normally onlly "wakes up"- uses power very occasionally and for a short time.

But when it drops the cell that you're on, so it has to "wake up" and search again, which

uses more power, because the network search takes a long time.

So - the worse the modem performance - the worse the battery life.

As for the SIM problems - the handset wouldn't pass type approval with performance this bad,

so Apple are really skating on thin ice here, putting out software that takes the handset out of type approval.

Team Apple: Please, are you going to do anything about this?? Can you please release a 7.1.3 that rolls back to the original 7.1.1 perhaps??

The problem is becoming more sticky than when it first started. I have had to do over 10 restarts, network reset, removing/cleaning and re-inserting the SIM tray, and yet the problem still persists. 😟😟😟

Having read all these posts about the Searching or No Service problem on iPhones, after updating to 7.1.2, I felt that I must add my experience to this.

I have had such a bad time with Apple recently, after having several Apple Products, that I really feel that I am going to come away from Apple Products, and look at alternatives.

Apple used to treat customers ok at one time, now, if you get a problem, they really don't want to know, I recently (about 15 months ago), purchased an iPhone 4S, from a Shop, this shop offers a 12 month warranty on anything you purchase from them, however, my iPhone was working ok, then, one night, I had been watching video's on YouTube, and it came up on the screen of the phone, "Battery Level Low", it had already warned me a couple of times, but I clicked it off, and carried on watching the video's, but this time, the battery was down to 2% remaining, so I thought I had better stop watching the video's, and as it was 11:30 pm, I decided to turn the phone off, and charge it in the morning.

the next morning, I put it on charge, it showed the battery on the screen, and a little bit or red, not surprising it was only a little bit of red, seeing as it had got down to 2% the night before! however! when I looked at it an hour or so later! there was an Apple Logo on the screen, and the phone would not turn on, or off.

I made an appointment at my local apple store, and took the phone over, after looking at it, they said that it could be a Battery Problem, and they could fit a new battery, and if that didn't sort the problem, they wouldn't charge, but, if it did sort the problem, that would be £55.00 for the new battery.

Well, I left the store, as I didn't have that sort of money, I took it back to the shop where I purchased it from, they said that I had had the phone 14 months, and they only gave 12 months Warranty, so there was nothing that they could do, so I ended up selling the 4S for spares, and I then added what money I had to what I had got for the 4S, and was able to buy an iPhone 4, I had had the iPhone 4 a couple of days, it was working fine, but I wanted to put a couple of songs on it, so connected it to iTunes, when I connected it to iTunes, it told me that there was an update available for my phone, and asked if I wanted to download and install it, so I let iTunes go ahead and download and install the update.

since the update, my iPhone has become just an i, as I can no longer use it as a phone, as it is either saying Searching or No Service, after contacting Apple, and going through going into iTunes and doing a complete Restore, everything is the same, and the end result, is Apple are saying to me, that the problem has arisen due to an un-official modification that had been done to it, and now the latest update was not compatible, and that because this has arisen because of the un-official modification made to the phone at some time, and the fact that the phone is 3 years old, they cannot do anything for me.

However, it's funny, that I am having this problem, because the phone has been un-officially modified at some time, when So Many people have had this Same Problem, since updating to IOS 7.1.2.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH APPLE, AND CANNOT SEE ME BUYING ANY MORE APPLE PRODUCTS

I also have the same problem with my iphone 4 after last update to 7.1.2, I tried all the described tricks... after deleting all and before restoring last backup from itunes sim card is searched and recognised, I can decode it and it works, but only until I press restore iphone from itunes, then it eventually fails again during the sync process...... I could probably initiate my iphone as new (if the problem is put back on the phone through the backup) but I don't want to lose all my data (contacts, calender etc.)... Any other tricks available???

I'd also like apple to fix this update bug asap, it's unbelievable...

It seems pretty obvious this is a software caused issue. Mine seems to be hard down, I haven't been able to get the No Sim message to go away even temporarily on my Ipad 2. AT&T Store rep and no luck either, will probably try the Apple Store tomorrow.

Hopefully it is a software fix and quick, or Apple is going to be having a lot of upset customers.

Hope it isn' a case of software damaging the hardware, requiring a hardware fix.

Leaving on Vacation next week, wonder if I will have working internet on my ipad or not.

My Contracts are up for renewal, How Apple handles this may determine if I remain an Apple customer, I think I would perfer to, but Samsung has some interesting products.

I Have had iPhones for some years now, but, after the way Apple had just Dismissed my latest problems, saying "we are sorry, but there is really nothing we can do, we are not obligated to issue a free replacement, and therefore are not prepared to do so", this is after having problems with Not One, But Two iPhones, in a row, neither of which have been caused by myself, the iPhone 4, was working fine, until this update, and although it is Out Of Warranty, as the problems Clearly Were caused by this update, I do feel that Apple could have offered a Free Replacement, as a Gesture Of Good Will .

i Have had iPhones, and am writing this on my iPad 2, but, due to the way that they have handled my latest problems, I really Cannot see me buying anymore Apple Products.

i Still intend to take this further, and see if I can get them to change their minds, but , if they stick to their decision, and refuse to offer a free replacement, then I will Not Buy Any More Apple Products, and Furthermore, Will Discourage Other People From Buying Apple Products Also.

ALL I WANT, IS WHAT I HAD BEFORE THIS UPDATE, A WORKING iPHONE

Hey, I found out that it also has to do with the phone getting hot. I finally managed to get to sim card back to work (with one of the described tricks: pressing home and turnoff button at the same time to turn the phone off and then turn it back on and put it into flight mode and back) after it had cooled down and it then failed again as soon as my phone was used extensively i.e. when I was gaming or using it for iStopMotion trickfilms, so maybe it is a mixture between a bug and hardware... I stopped gaming on the phone and havn't had the problem since, so thumbs up for the moment 🙂

I have this exact problem with my iPad Mini Retina - After updating to 7.1.2 cellular signal is gone. Nothing to do with my network, as my phone still picks up signal and I even had the iPad's SIM swapped for a new one to make sure it wasn't faulty. Tried everything else including reseting network settings, hard reset, even wiping it and restoring from backup. Still no signal. Worked perfectly before the update. Nothing to do with the device getting hot.

This is absolutely appalling customer service. An official Apple update which cannot be undone has broken a major feature of my device, and obviously those of other apple customers as well. My sympathy goes out to all the others in this thread who have been struggling with this issue for in some cases weeks, with no response or fix from Apple. I'm only glad I didn't update my iPhone too, otherwise I could have been royally screwed.
