iPhone freezes at updating iOS 7.2.1 with NONFUNCTIONING SLEEP WAKE BUTTON

I had a similar issue happen to me. I have an iPhone5 but the wake/sleep button doesnt work so i've been using Assistive touch. When i tried updating to ios 7.1.2 the update froze about 60% of the way through. i had read that rebooting with sleep/home button would resolve the issue - but since my sleep/wake button doesnt work, i had to wait for the battery to run out. After that i simply plugged in my phone and it came back up with ios 7.1.2 installed.

Just do a hard reset (press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time for a few seconds), then turn it on as you normally would. It worked for me. Information on Iphone is safe.

same thing happened to me with my iPhone 5. Holding the restart / sleep/wake button didn't work, not even holding it for 3 mins. I'm waiting for the battery to drain, if it doesn't work then a trip to Apple store it is.. but I think there is no Apple store in my country. Great.

How long did it take for the battery to completely drain? mine have been frozen for about 12 hours now and still nothing

Hard reset worked for me to. It seems that the update caused a freeze, but in the background the install was going fine. The iPhone shows now that I have the latest version installed.

Battery completed drained took around 6 hours for me, but I think it depends on how full was your battery before it froze And age of your phone. After battery was revived it works again with the new update installed.

Hey I had the same problem and i left my iphone charging with the frozen screen and around 20 to 30 hours later i reset it and it worked, it has the new software already and i did not loose any of my data.

Try again. I had your problem. Then I just held down both buttons for a good while (10s?), and it eventually reset and everything came back like before.

I too had the same problem and eventually after pressing both buttons at the same time,the phone reset ,the update was installed and nothing missing. Thank you for the advice🙂

Same thing happened to me, but after hard reset got the DFU cable/itunes icon screen. Hooked it up to iTunes and it said something like "this phone requires a full restore". Did that and initially said "unable to restore due to unknown issue" or something like that. Panicked a little. Turned phone off/on then restarted the restore process and then worked fine (except I was at work where our WiFi blocks iCloud so couldn't restore my backup until I got home). Unnecessarily stress-inducing. Oh, and same thing happened on iPad (froze 25% into update) but just turned it off/on and it worked fine.

I have an iPhone 4S that hung up during the update. A reset holding the home and power buttons worked and it appears I did not lose any data.

I had the same problem on my iPhone4s. Hard Reset worked for me too and it shows the latest software installed after boot up. I did not lose any data. However, the Hard Reset and Boot up may take longer than usual.

Just for the record, I just updated my iPhone 5S from 7.0.4 to 7.1.2, it did all the extracting software, then started the update on the phone, i think the phone reset itself, then the apple screen with the "loading bar" around the same time i got a message on the mac screen saying something along the lines of "To allow to connect to itunes please respond on your phone", which obviously i couldn't, as it was still "loading". After reading some of the posts regarding the hard reset, and waiting like 20 minutes with nothing happening, i did a hard reset on the phone (btw neither buttons did anything when pressed on their own, but when held together the phone reset), the screen went black, then the semi greyed out screen with the apple logo, then the "loading bar " appeared again, went to about 12% (i imagine) then the screen changed to the bright white with apple logo, and then went black. then 5 seconds later my lock screen appeared, everything works fine, I am on 7.1.2 and didn't lose anything.
