Connecting iPod to Honda Music Link

I need help! I have a 5th Gen iPod, and also I have a Honda Music Link, connected to a Honda Accord. I recently updated th e iPod software from 1.1.2, to version 1.2 (the newest version). Guess what, my iPod is now not recognized by my car audio system. It only shows a blinking "CD-01" all the time, and I can't manage my iPod with the car system controls as I could before I did the upgrade. I tried to restore the iPod and loaded the TTS entries again, but no luck.

Does anyone uses this and has the same problem as I have? What can I do to resolve the problem? Please help, I really hate my iTrip!!

See my thread here on an easy way to restore your firmware to 1.1.2, without uninstalling iTunes 7 from your own machine.

Basically you need to get a copy of the 6-28-2006 updater and run it on your iPod while connected to a machine that is not running iTunes 7. You can't go back after you update to 1.2 with iTunes 7.

I have the same problem. All I get on the stereo head unit is a flashing "6", as if the Music Link doesn't recognize the iPod now. It worked fine before I updated to 1.2 firmware.

I've tried all day to find a way to get back to the 1.1.2 version of the firmware without success, and I'm running out of ideas. I think I'm going to the Apple store tomorrow.

Is this a special wire in your Honda?

I used a SenStation iPod Dock - will that continue to
work?

Music Link is Honda's custom iPod connection kit, sold and installed by the dealer. It integrates the iPod songs/playlists into the car's audio system and in-dash display. It's worked fine until the most recent iPod update.

I'm familiar with SendStation. I actually use one in my own car, a BMW with a dealer-installed AUX audio jack. But as far as I know, the Accord doesn't have any AUX input that would work with the SendStation.

dc20 responded to my post last week regarding my 2006 Acura TL with Acura Music Link, but I did not see this post until I searched "Honda Music Link." I am having the same problem with a 2006 TL. I am at least glad we are not alone. I get the flashing disc 6 and no music. TODAY, September 18th - I personally called Acura Corporate, I called my dealer, and now I am looking to call Honda North America and Apple themselves to let them know. I will post information I find out on here.

I went one step further and took it to my Honda dealer and they removed the music link and placed a new one in. It will not work with my iPod either, so it is definitely the updated software because they tried it with a tech's iPod I guess he had not updated his software and his worked fine. Thinking maybe a restore, but I don't want to go through re-loading all that music on again. (60gb, 55 full). How about uninstalling iTunes then reinstalling it with the cd? Any ideas?

Thanks for checking. I have a ticket open with Acura corporate regarding the issue, and I am going to call them back today.

I am also trying to avoid the restore "nuclear"
option. I wish Apple would issue a patch soon. I wonder what percentage of iPod owners are Acura/Honda Music Link users? Probably <1%? That said, I hope we're not low on the priority list.

Someone is going to need to fix this soon (Honda or Apple). Both parties essentially promised us a Music Link that works with iPod. The Acura Music Link instructions even ENCOURAGE updating to the latest software. Anyway, I'll keep posting if I find out anything...

As a long-time Honda owner and new iPod owner, I'm curious about all of your experiences with this product (the 1.2 issues notwithstanding). In poking around the internet, it looks like Honda's implementation is universally reviled. I quote one reviewer:

"I feel that with its ridiculously poor interface to the music on the iPod, it is about as easy to use as if one gave their friend an iPod, told them to stand on the opposite of a thick door, read off what is on the screen, and indicate to them what buttons they should press by poking them with a coat hanger stuck through the keyhole."

Right now I just have my iPod sound output connected directly to the amp (this requires disconnecting the CD player), and this works fine. Anyone have any positive comments on Honda's Music Link?
