Connecting iPod to Honda Music Link

I need help! I have a 5th Gen iPod, and also I have a Honda Music Link, connected to a Honda Accord. I recently updated th e iPod software from 1.1.2, to version 1.2 (the newest version). Guess what, my iPod is now not recognized by my car audio system. It only shows a blinking "CD-01" all the time, and I can't manage my iPod with the car system controls as I could before I did the upgrade. I tried to restore the iPod and loaded the TTS entries again, but no luck.

Does anyone uses this and has the same problem as I have? What can I do to resolve the problem? Please help, I really hate my iTrip!!

how do you restore back to 1.1.2?

The reload is a ***** when you have moved your entire iTunes library including video (55gb worth) over to a 200gb external back-up drive. Anyone know an easy way to do this? I want my link to work, and you are right I paid $340 for it to work right.

My other solution was to go buy a 30gb iPod and load half of my music onto it to be solely used in the car.

This new iPod software version notwithstanding, I've had no troubles with my music link. It doesn't work the way I thought it would when I got it, but once I got used to the way it works I've been happy with it. I don't use the software honda gave me to install, I wasn't happy with what it offered. If I just start a playlist and plug in the link cable it will start from that playlist and play it, and of course the shuffle feature is always a quick and easy way to go.

The sound system in the 2006 Acura TL is very good, and my iPod connected through the music link sounds great. I do NOT use the software that came with it. I did it at first, HATED it, and uninstalled it. I usually will choose a music genre or playlist, set my car's stereo head to "Random" and then use the steering wheel controls to go from song to song (randomly). I really like it overall, but HATED the software. No regrets about purchasing the Music Link...until now. I just want it to work again. So, I guess I will revert back to 1.1.2, until the fix comes about.

I have the same problem also. To prove it wasn't my car, I connect another iPod I hadn't updated and it still works. Can't find anywhere how to go back a firmware version on the ipod. Will continue to look because that is the only answer right now. Am also going to call Accura (Honda) and make them put pressure on Apple to fix this problem.

To go back to version 1.1,2

1. download this <http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628formac.html> if you have a mac, <http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628forwindows.html> for windows.
2. make sure everything on your ipod is backed up, your going to erase the whole thing.
3.run the installer and select restore. That's it.

--Note: check your utilities folder as you very well might already have the installer on your hard drive.

I updated to iTunes 7 and iPod firmware update 1.2. I also get the blinking CDC 1 (in my 2006 Honda Civic)......the music link apparently doesn't even recognize the presence of the iPod. I tried restarting the iPod with no luck. I reinstalled firmware 1.1.2, and the iPod will now play through the stereo, but the Honda TTS system is not working (I have maintained iTunes 7 and have not been able to downgrade back to version 6). What I mean is that when I scroll through and choose a selection through the TTS vocal system, the iPod doesn't play what I have chosen. Perhaps going back to iTunes 6 would work, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. My Honda dealer says that Honda is aware of the problem

(Posted this in another thread - "Acura Music Link - Issues after iTunes 7 and update 1.2" - copying here as well, since this seems like an active thread.)
I just updated mine to 1.2 - and have a 2006 TL - but don't use the Acura software (too much of a pain), and mine appears to work generally fine on Disc 5 (album shuffle). However, if I turn off the stereo, or switch over to something else (like XM) and come back, it may or may not skip for about 10 seconds, and clears itself up. It may pick up where it left off. It may even keep playing, so I have therefore missed part of the song.

But here's the kicker - when I turn my car off, the song starts playing again. If you disconnect the iPod, it takes a good 10-15 seconds to start responding to key presses. (If you disconnect before turning off the car, it behaves the way it should.)

I only discovered this today, when I got in my car after work, the display said it was where I'd left it, but it certainly wasn't the same song I turned off at. I think it actually kept looping the album I was on all day.

So, I did some experimenting, and if you turn off the stereo, it will absolutely pause the iPod - but the song will start playing again as soon as you turn off the car.

Hopefully, this points someone in the right direction.

just got to jump on the band waggin here. i drive an '06 Honda Element and spent about $200 on equipment, but at $95 an hour for installation honda got me for nearrly $600.

I agree WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RESET our iPods to v1.0. In the SAME keynote presentation, Mr. Jobs bragged about iTunes 7 as well as all of the car manufactures that support the music link.

I DO NOT doubt Apple's abilty to fix the problem, but it's been a couple of weeks and we haven't heard a thing. i expect this sort of treatment from a third party, but when Apple gives it endorsment i expect the BEST.

Apple Please respond. give us something.

ps - does anybody know who makes the music link (i.e panasonic? pioneer? billybob's electronics?)

I spoke w/ Honda customer service today regarding this problem and they are no help. They indicated that they were aware of the problem and directed me to the Honda Music Link download site...then told me that the site is down and they do not know when it will be back up.

I also have spent about $800.00 for this equipment and I want my money back...for both the music link and ipod.

can anyone say class action...it may be the only solution.

It's definitely the 1.2 firmware that's the problem with Honda Music Link. Like many others, I downloaded and installed iTunes 7.0 and also updated the firmware to 1.2. After these changes, the iPod stopped working in my Honda Accord. I went through the lengthy and unpleasant process of getting back to firmware 1.12 (not easy, because iTunes 7.0 won't allow you to do it, so you have uninstall iTunes 7.0 first, then install iTunes 6, roll back to firmware 1.12, then in order to read your iTunes library, re-install iTunes 7.0; yeah, lots of fun). Meanwhile, Apple has released a new version of iTunes (7.0.1) but I don't think it will fix this problem or the many others associated with the updates. Very, very disappointed in Apple, but I still love my iPod and my Honda...I just won't be updating my iPod firmware any time soon!

I would assume that Honda was made aware of the ipod update and would issue a firmware upgrade for their music link. Also, the TTS software is sorely inadequate. Honda needs to take a look at what toyota offers. Their link does not have this problem and reads the song/album info to the screen of their nav system as well as their radio displays.

Like others this was a major perk in my decision to purchase a civic hybrid. almost wish I had bought the Toyota.

Also, too bad that honda does not provide an email for compliants etc. you have to call. 800-999-1009

time to flood the help desk...

I just picked up an 80gb ipod, have itunes 7.01, and firmware 1.2 and yep, my ipod will not work with Honda Music Link on either CD 5 or 6 in my 2006 Honda Pilot. I get the flashing "5" or "6" on the screen of my car stereo with no music coming from the ipod. This pretty much ***** and illustrates the danger of blindly "upgrading" software without knowing what the results may be, both positive and negative. I've already written feedback to Apple about the problem, asked them to fix it with a quick firmware refresh - hopefully if enough people do this it will prompt Apple to take action.
