iPhone 4 froze on update for iOS 7.1.2 and lock button is broken! HELP!!

Last night my iPhone 4 was updating for iOS 7.1.2 and it was working perfectly fine until it froze 3/4 of the way.

It has been stuck on the Apple logo and progress bar for over 13 hours, I tried draining out the battery hoping it would turn off then restart but even when it was on 0% it would not turn off. I also cant do the hard reboot with the home and sleep/wake/lock button due to my lock button being broken (it has been broken for awhile now) I can't get it fixed at the moment but I really want to be able to use my phone, I also don't want to restore my phone because im scared im going to lose everything on it.

This is really frustrating, does anybody know what else i could do to get my phone up and running again?

Hello,

I have an iPhone 5 and my upgrade froze. I tried to put it into DFU mode to restore the firmware using iTunes. Instructions are here:

But all I had to do was hold down the home button and the power button for 10 seconds. When I let go of both buttons the phone turned on Weird, maybe my good luck will carry on to others.

Thanks

Jason M.
