Second display problem with 10.9.4

After installing Mavericks 10.9.4 my second display stop working, does not detect external display anymore, I even try the "Detect Display". I downloaded and install the 10.9.4 Combo update, it doesn't work, try a clean install of OS X Mavericks but nothing working to solve this problem. I try downgrade with my time machine but the restore process take about 25 hours to finish connecting via Ethernet cable, and I can't wait that long... 😟 Someone are experience the same problem I have with this update?

My computer specs:

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB

Capacity: 500GB

I just have one thunderbolt on my iMac. And I have the cable with thunderbolt to HDMI.

I also called tech support and im with a senior technician. under 10.9.3 my display thunderbolt to displayport was working. under 10.9.4 not anymore. i ccidentally told the support it was thunderbolt / minidisplay to dvi instead of displayport.

but since i read you guys have the same problem with dvi, i guess it was still right to do so. and i also guess apples engineers must have seen what kind of connection it was, displayport or dvi right?

anyway, they had logs from 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 . now they called me again and told me they would send me an apple minidisplay to dvi. and see if this works. i guess ill be getting it on friday and check. still though i dont get why they cant figure that out.

on a mac mini (mid 2011) same issue since 10.9.3

VERY annoying since mac mini doesn't have a internal display....

Mid-2011 Mac Min specs:

Processor 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7

Geheugen 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Videokaart AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB

now running: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) (issue occurred since installation of 10.9.3)

Display: EIZO S2433W

Connected via a daisy-linked thunderbolt-connection (in between is a La Cie Thunderbolt drive)

An APC UPS is connected (I just mention it, because some are referring to stand-by settings)

95% of all "wake-ups" I need to power-cycle my monitor to restore image....😟

If this isn't fixed by next Monday, I'm going to stand outside my local apple store and start telling customers about the horrible "multiple monitor" support.

This crap has been an issue form 10.8 to 10.8.3, and has yet to work with Mavericks 10.9 - 10.9.4.

I'm gonna flyer Miami with the reports and actively sell my macbook, mini, ipad and iphone in front of the store and order a dell right there and then.

Telling us (fellow Mac users) will not improve the situation. You need to communicate with Apple.

I have an iMac with a second DVI display. Second display stopped working properly ever since 10.9.2 upgrade.

The monitor continually goes in and out of sleep. flashing on and off.

I've been completely through apple support and they say wait till a fix comes out which I was fine with but now it's strike 2.

10.9.3 no solution

10.9.4 no solution

I have a BS in computer science. I've done ALL the steps along with a bunch of other stupid suggestions I shouldn't be giving my time.

My favorite part of Apple has always been not having to deal with this crap!! I can understand hardware failures but this is unacceptable.

During a reinstall or recovery boot the monitor works fine. Once the desktop loads it starts flashing again.

This is a software problem. This is a huge -- hopefully embarrassing -- problem for Apple.

I'm a long time apple lover... this is a bummer. First time I've been disappointed with them besides iOS 7 just being ugly.

I'm having exactly the same problem on my iMac since 10.9.3. I already called Apple Care, but they told me it's an ASUS issue and they should have been providing OS X drivers (!!!) like they do on Windows. I say WTH? It happened after updating on 10.9.3, so it's clearly Apple's fault.

That's not how it supposed to be, Apple.

P.S. can anybody tell me why did I buy that costly AppleCare thing?

I'm glad it worked for you, Chet - it was a real relief when the OP shared it, and it worked for me.

So far, I've used it on 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 – I'm just keeping it on my desktop, ready to use if future updates scramble the display situation.

Given that it's a clear and repeatable fix, it's a shame that Apple can't track down the problem with the updates. I'm a huge Team Apple fanboy, but I've never had this kind of repeated issue in the entire time I've used Macs – and that's since week 3 after release in 1984.

I agree on the disappointment.

I've been along for the long ride as well - a ][+, //ci, 840av, NeXT slab, NeXT cube, OpenStep on white hardware, G3 laptop, G4 tower, and a bunch of modern... sure, there have been moments of suckage - but this is a record low point which i find inconceivable.

To know that they sit on a pile of cash and still find it acceptable to have such a poor QA and development process that something could be released that corrupts displays for a number of their supported hardware -- *corrupts*displays*... not "oh Pages can't bold a layered text block", not "i wish Mail would stop checking all Mail accounts when it launches", ... - *corrupts*displays*.

Further, that it can exist for, not one but, two releases is actually kind of insulting and totally deflating, both from the perspective of a person who has liked Apple products and one who likes good development process. It feels like a big F-U to me.
