Second display problem with 10.9.4

After installing Mavericks 10.9.4 my second display stop working, does not detect external display anymore, I even try the "Detect Display". I downloaded and install the 10.9.4 Combo update, it doesn't work, try a clean install of OS X Mavericks but nothing working to solve this problem. I try downgrade with my time machine but the restore process take about 25 hours to finish connecting via Ethernet cable, and I can't wait that long... 😟 Someone are experience the same problem I have with this update?

My computer specs:

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB

Capacity: 500GB

I just have one thunderbolt on my iMac. And I have the cable with thunderbolt to HDMI.

I'm experiencing similar problems with a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010. My external monitor, an Asus PB278Q, is connected by a Lindy MiniDisplayPort -> DisplayPort cable. All Mac OS X Versions prior to 10.9.3 had no (only sometimes) problems to use the external display (and with full resolution - 2560x1440). Starting with 10.9.3 the PB278Q occasionally got no DisplayPort signal while working and regularly after waking-up from stand-by. Only a computer restart got the signal back for the external display. Since 10.9.4 the external monitor is mostly not recognized - neither at fresh startup nor at wake-up from stand-by. I've to reset the NVRAM and SMC and restart between 5 and 10 times (while praying) in order to get an image on the external display.

Connecting the monitor with the Apple MiniDisplay to DVI-single-link adapter works every time (but of course only in FullHD resolution). I haven't tried a DVI-dual-link adapter, yet.

It's very frustrating since I invested in a "more-than-HD" resolution monitor, but cannot use it properly in 2560x1440px mode.

Summary: Try disabling DropBox

I filed a defect with Apple and they requested various system configurations which I uploaded. I'm still working with an engineer but he recommended I try disabling DropBox. Once I quit DropBox applications, my second display detects properly and CPU does not spike to 101%.

While this is not a log term resolution, it does allow me to use a secondary display.

I am having this same problem too with my mid 2012 Macbook pro on 10.9.4.

I am connected to a second display using a VGA cable and I was having no problem with it until I upgraded to 10.9.4, now it will not recognize the external monitor. This is a simple issue that Apple must solve with 10.9.5, do they even look at these posts?

Running 10.9.4 with GTX 770 with MacPro 3,1. This has solved my issue. Second monitor on DVI-D port now is working. I am going to attempt to install CUDA to see if I can get back to work with Premiere.

down load kext utility here http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Kext-Utility.shtml

download Kexts here https://www.dropbox.com/s/a510p6a9immdboc/Kexts.zip

unzip the file

delete all Geforce and NVDA kexts located in your system/library/extensions

open kext utility and drop the all the kext files you downloaded on the window

wait till complete

reboot

now all monitors working again!

gatd4's solution worked perfectly for me! It might not work for non-NVDIA Macs, but it worked on my 2008 Mac Pro. Thank goodness - good luck!

With cautious hope, i note that they re-classified my filed bug (17083693) no longer as a duplicate of another issue and re-opened it, now asking for the dongle make and model i'm using. (This happens for me with either a "Apple Mini-DP to Dual Link Adapter" (Part Number: MB571Z/A) or a Cable Matters DisplayPort cable). ...fingers crossed for a 10.9.6 fix...

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina.

My external monitor has been working flawlessly up until today (why today? - it was fine on Monday with external monitor although prior to that I have not been using external monitor since 7th August due to being away on holiday).

So yes, today I booted up as normal with my external monitor connected - a dell u2713h (Thunderbolt on Macbook to Display Port in on Monitor) and my first realisation that something was wrong was that I could not move my mouse from my external monitor left off the screen unto my Macbook... it was trapped in the external monitor. I tried changing the setting to "mirror" display and both screens went black. I couldn't undo it.. I had to reboot.

After several reboots I noticed that sometimes the Macbook screen had a faded menu bar at that top.. maybe just because it was not the active screen but everything else looked normal.

So anyhow, I'm wondering, is this caused by the 10.9.4 update?... it must have installed silently because I don't remember installing it. Or do I have some other issue?

PS, I tried the Geforce and NVDA kexts fix but no dice... although it looks like no harm done either.

What do people think?

Thanks,

/Brian
