Fix for distorted sound in itunes ver 7.0

Right-click your mouse button on the quicktime icon in your system tray, then click on quicktime preferences in the popup menu that shows up,...then click on the audio tab(it'll be on the top next to the other ones)....then change the sound out rates to the following:

rate:48kHz or less
size: 16 bit

then click the apply button on the bottom.

then restart your iTunes.

A rather simple fix but it's surprising Apple didn't come up with it on their own. Hopefully one of the Monkey's in charge of coding the most unwanted Quicktime will eventually fix the problem so it supports 24-bit sound.

lemme know if it works for you. 🙂

iTunes 7.0.1.8 update has gone a long way towards fixing the music playback problems I was having with the original iTunes 7.0 but they still haven't completely fixed it.

Playback jumps when I use Windows Explorer whilst playing music. I have no problems with other media players (Windows Media Player/ Real Player).

Until a few weeks ago I used Win Media Player & Creative Zen Touch. I really like iTunes & iPod functionality but this bug is putting me off. I couldn't recommend iTunes to friends and would not have swapped had I known. I'm back to playing music through Windows Media Player.

Please Apple, let us have a proper fix.

after a 3+ hours of playing with my the settings for:

itune ver: 7.0.1.8
Rate: 96 kHz
Size: 24 bit
Channel: 5.1

...and reinstalling my SB Audigy 2 sound card ...and playing with all the settings for the soundcard including the Device Controls (creative software) in AudioHQ where i set the digital output sampling rate from 48 kHz to 96 kHz (this is PCM SPDIF output to Home Theatre system).

Finally things have improved to where sound quality is better than it was with 6.0! However... when a new song begins the song typically stuters and goes scratchy for a few seconds. During the sound degrade CPU usage for Itunes from ~6%-7% up to 65%.

Also windows refreshing within album view mode to be improved. I an really dumbfounded by Apple sacrificing core quality to satisfy some tactical marketing objective!
