Apple TV plays only iTunes extras if the iTunes extra doesn't have a play movie option!?

Apple TV plays only iTunes extras if the iTunes extra doesn't have a play movie option!? I have Disney's Planes - the extras menu doesn't have a play option so I can't play the movie from the Movies app! There should be a way to play the movie instead of going into the extras menu. I know I can play from the computers section but does anyone know of a way to work around this. It seems like a design flaw either with Apple or Disney or both. Any thoughts?

Is anyone having the problem where you go inside the Extra and you don't see PLAY or TRAILER? Or when PLAY is missing, do you see TRAILER where PLAY should be?

If both PLAY and TRAILER are missing:

• What movie is it?

• Did you buy it as SD or HD?

• Is there any difference in behavior if you access the iTunes Extra through Movies > Purchsed versus accessing the Movie on the iTunes Store pages?

• Can you attach a screenshot of the Extra with the missing PLAY and TRAILER buttons?

Thanks, Chris. If your iTunes Store video resolution is set to 720p or 1080p, the iTunes Store offers HD purchases. If you have purchased an SD movie previously for which there is now an Extra included with the HD version, the Store page for the movie offers a preview of the Extra. In Extras previews, the PLAY option is replaced by a TRAILER option. I am trying to understand if that is what people are seeing or if both the TRAILER and PLAY options are absent.

Hi, Ethan. That isn't the issue at all, actually. It only happens on some movies. Originally it was Planes, but now that is ok. The Little Mermaid still has this issue.). To reproduce the issue:

1. Navigate to your desired movie.

2. Select "Play" as always

3. The movie used to start playing, if there are HD Extras, you now see a new splash page with an additional menu.

4. On the broken movies, the "Play" option is completely gone. There is absolutely no way to click "Play" because it does not exist anywhere at all. It's like the programmer left it off accidentally. The extras work fine, but you cannot watch the movie.

Again, this does not happen on all movies so if you don't see the error there's really nothing you can do. The only movie I have in my collection of 30'ish titles that still has this issue is The Little Mermaid. Planes had it the issue for about 3 days and then it was corrected. I'm sure someone will fix it eventually, but it would be great if there was a better way to notify someone of the bug.

Thanks!

I Figured out the Little Mermaid issue.

1.) On the main screen with "preview", "play", "wish list", and "more", navigate to the play button.

2.) Now normally here most of us hit the "select" button (the concave center button) on the remote, but if you hit the "play/pause" button on the remote while the blue box is on the play button on the tv then the movie will start without going to the "extras" menu.

I Hope this helps 🙂
