iTunes 11.3 - freezing, clunky, beachball, broken - terrible update

Before I begin - can I just say that I love iTunes - and have used it for years and years - no probs. It's been a great app to manage my music and podcasts - which it has done flawlessly - until now that is....

Today updated to iTunes 11.3 - and all I can say is that I dearly wish I hadn't. I mainly use iTunes to manage my podcasts, and I subscibe to a lot of them- over 50 in fact.

However this version of iTunes for me is is totally unusable with them. I cannot scroll through podcasts lists, without it either jumping all over the place or the beachball showing up.

It has made what was a joy into a totally frustrating experience. This version of iTunes for me is basically broken.

and I know it can't just be me, cuz I have started to see other posts all over the interweb from others experiencing similar issues.

seems only to affect podcasts.

Basically version 10.7 was absolutely fine - But these latest versions of iTunes from 11.0 onwards have been utterely terrible

If anyone knows any solutions to the buggy, jumpy, clunky, beachball inducing issues that I am experiencing, please help to ease my pain.

For others - if you haven't upgraded - my advice is to think twice before you do.

For me, I think it's going to have to be a Time Machine roll back to better days.

I have the same problem. I have tried Disk Utilities several times.

I keep my iTunes library on an external drive. Could that be the problem?

I also miss not being able to update my podcasts when I want. I use iTunes mainly for podcasts, but I also have a lot of music too.

Looks like this is happening to lots of people

My library is on a fast Thunderbolt Drive, so should not be stalling/pausing/jolting/freezing like it is - and besides it never did before with older version of iTunes.

This version of iTunes (11.3) for podcasts is broken. Its simply not useable.

What I've observed is that iTunes v11 will freeze up/beachball if podcast subscriptions are refreshed if the Podcast view is List. Before refreshing podcasts change the view to one of the other podcasts views like My Podcasts then refresh the podcasts. BTW, I'm not happy about this as I find the List view more to my liking.

It's still the same - I have basically totally reverted back to an old version of itunes - as it basically was stopping me from using / enjoying podcasts

and my old version of itunes (v10.7) works brilliantly with podcasts again on my iMac

Only downside is that I also had to roll back my iPhone ios back to 6 to work with it

But for now would rather have smooth scrolling podcasts than anything ios 7 can offer me

I just can't undersatnd why Apple have created a new version of iTunes that basically doesn't work properly - and at the end of the day scrolling a list of podcasts shouldn't be a difficult feature for them to implement? Very frustrating

Apple released iTunes 11.3.1 today (7 Aug 2014) to specifically address this podcast issue. The fix is definitely better, but still far from perfect. It takes 14 seconds to delete a single podcast. However you can now use the podcast in iTunes.

I updated from v11.2 to 11.3.1 and iTunes appears to be able to refresh my podcast subscriptions when I'm using the Podcast List view. I was unable to do this with v11.2. This has made me happier (although I'm still peeved about v11 removing support for playlists in separate windows).

11.3.1 has completely broken iTunes for me. I cannot play back a song without pauses. I keep my iTunes library on a 64 gig SD card in my Retina. Playback was normal on 11.2 and whatever the previous version was.
