Download new iTunes Extras? iTunes 11.3/Apple TV 6.2

Apple has given us a delicious chocolate cake, and I've just discovered it's been poisoned!

I was so exited when I read the Apple TV Update 6.2 would allow me to watch iTunes Extras on Apple TV, but now I've found out that I have to stream the content from online. How stupid is that? What about the 18GBs worth, over 9 hours of footage that came with the extend edition of The Hobbit? The second installment releasing in a few months is going to have just as much, and if Apple thinks I am going to stream it online, they are out of their right mind!

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to download the 'new' iTunes Extras? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me.

Also, is it at all possible to play old iTunes Extras on Apple TV with the new update?

I just stumbled across this thread and I wanted to put my two cents in on this: not being able to download iTunes Extras with our movies anymore is not just awful, it's absolutely unacceptable. And we cannot get access to the iTunes Extras with the SD versions of the movies, only the HD versions? That is also unacceptable. This is coming from someone who, up to this point, has only been buying the SD versions of the movies simply because they cost less and they take up less space on the hard drive -- and also, the Mac I currently have is not capable of playing HD versions of movies at all, as it does not meet all requirements for that. What Apple is doing with iTunes Extras now, has me at least a little tempted to go back to buying the movies on DVD and even Blu-ray just to be able to have extras that I don't have to be online to view, and right now, I have a DVD player, but I do not have a Blu-ray player yet. Apple should be required to keep making iTunes Extras downloadable and available with HD AND SD versions of the movies no matter what. That should apply to all new movies and any movies which have been made available in the iTunes Store since they made this unacceptable change.

I found that the only solution for me was to roll back to iTunes 11.2, which is the last version of iTunes before the streaming extras were launched. It means that most of the Extras no longer show as even existing/being available in the iTunes store, but it also means that my computer doesn't get logjammed by a remotely-hosted Extras menu that won't load, which is what started happening on a regular basis. Time Warner provides my suburb some of the lousiest Internet service ever. While Apple claims that the Extras will be bypassed if you're not connected to the Internet, my Wifi (and this is partly Apple's fault, because they keep having to debug their wifi coding with each release of OSX) doesn't know when I'm connected to my router but not to the Internet, and assumes that if it can see the router, it can access the iTunes servers even when that isn't true.

Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to get much in the way of help from Apple. I got a stunningly rude email from one of their representatives, someone named "Dipanwita," on Friday, who said: "Lara, in order to avoid streaming I would suggest you to purchase the movies which does not include iTunes Extras. There are movies available without iTunes Extras. Please review any content in the iTunes Store before you go ahead and purchase." In other words, if I want a title that already comes with Extras, but don't want streaming extras, I should take my money somewhere else and good riddance. Well, I suppose I should give Dipanwita points for honesty, anyway.

It hacks me off that I can get more value out of a five dollar bin at Wal-Mart or Target than from the iTunes store. That is just beyond wrong.

I have to chime in because I can see no other way to list my concurrence with you all, and my complaint with Apple. It is NOT acceptable that I cannot download the content I PAID for. I wanted to watch the iTunes extras while traveling without internet usages. I can't do this, I paid money to be able to do this, therefor I have been swindled. I will be asking for a refund and I will NOT be purchasing movies from Apple until this fixed.

Apple for a long time now has proven that the customer and the customer experience is the last thing on their mind. From unbelievable bad customer service and warranties on devices. every move you make in the "apple" world will cost you money and your time. you will have to figure things out and pay to make your devices work the way they should. I know its odd to start this post about movie extras like this but I'm venting a bit here. But it also is to prove a point from "big deal" things to the small things, apple doesn't care. There is no reason to not offer the customer EVERYTHING they purchased. if you are going to argue that it saves room on a persons device to stream the content. (the only one reason that this option would make sense for) fine. But Apple allowed downloading before so why not make it an option. Cause for that one reason it makes sense to stream, there are many more reason why downloading makes more sense. most devices have the room to store the content anyway. apple has to learn that just cause they want the world to be wired and everything in the cloud. That is not the world we live in. So like a 5 year old child apple has to grow up! Give the customers not only what they want (by the way apple that is just good business advice on how you should treat your customers) but also what they paid you for.

So in apple's world (the world i live in now but will be leaving cause i had enough) I bought the HD movie Interstellar. It has a one hour documentary extra.

With apple's "making sure the customer experience is the best" which cook said on stage many times. I have to go and buy the blueray disc to watch the documentary. How is buying the movie twice a good experience? When I try to watch it the apple way I get 23 seconds in and then the documentary stops, buffers, starts.....stops, buffers, starts....stops, buffers, starts... So let me think should i WASTE anymore money on apple. When I will have to buy the blueray if there is anything extra i would like to see. I'm just going to skip giving my money to this child like company where everything has to be their way. I suggest the same for all of apple's customers. But this is just my thought on the matter.
