Nano emits high-pitched whine or buzz

Geez how loud is the noise. Mine makes a noise (4gb 2nd gen) and it can only be heard when you put your ear to the back?? I think thats normal.

Its definately the battery running. Its a high capacity battery and yet so thin and because it soo thin they hardly had any room so im guessing the insulation for the battery isnt to thick. Unlike the first gen where the battery was thicker, it had good insulation but average life. Makes sense the razrs battery is thin too and to maxmize capacity they thinned the insulation to add more room inside the battery.

High Pitched noise happens on 4GB & 8GB!! 😟

I bought an 8GB Nano 2nd Gen for myself and a 4GB Nano 2nd Gen for my gf. Both of these nanos emit a high pitched noise, which is really annoying to me!. They emit even when i have the ipod in another part of the room, i can still hear it buzzing.

I suppose its a good thing if you loose your Ipod and you want to find it, it wouldn't be hard as all you would have to listen for is the buzzing noise 🙂 .

But for me, i've had these devices 2 days and I am returning both for a refund and waiting for apple to fix this issue!!!.

You can hear it from another room? Wow, i can hardly hear mine putting my ear to it.

A mate of mine told me that the ipod has a moving hard drive, it spins like a disc and i think this is what makes the high-pitch buzz or whine.Also my mini and video both do the same thing.

The nano doesn't have a hard drive, it uses a flash drive without moving parts.

Thats true of the Ipod videos, the nanos use a flash type drive, its like a chip. So no moving parts.

You were quick to reply lol. What about the mini it buzzes too.Does it have a flash chip type hard drive or a movind one?

The 2G nano's brighter screen is the culprit. It's a "normal" by product we must live with....

yeah but does anyone know about the mini eveny though its severly outdated?

I OPEND MY NEW REPLACEMENT iPOD A MINUTE AGO, AND IT ALSO EMITS THAT ANOYING BUZZ! ****!

Hearing that makes me sad Ambassadeur. My replacement iPod is in transit. I expect to receive it any day now. I really hoped the replacement would be silent. If my next iPod also whines I will do two things: tell this forum about it right away and get a refund. I for one cannot stand the buzzing. At all.

Apple have sent me another replacement iPod, it should be here by friday.

They could at least offer us some compensation... I'm telling you; I'M KEEPING THE EARBUDS!! 😝

iPod nano 8GB Windows XP

Lo and behold! My replacement iPod 2nd nano (black) just arrived, and it's silent! Of course, if I press my ear flush to the backside of the nano, I can still hear that high-pitch whine, but now I can keep the nano beside me on my desk without getting annoyed. So for all intents and purposes, I'm happy with my replacement. I can only wish the rest of you the same luck!

Congrats Andreas, my 2 gig is the same. You have to put it to your ear to hear it. Thats probably normal on all the new nanos. If you can hear yours a foot away then it definately has problems.
