Logic Pro X Hanging Notes with Motu Express 128

Hi,

I have Logic Pro X 10.0.7. with Mac OS X10.9.4 @ GHz Intel Core 7 8GB Ram, Mac Book Pro, MOTU Midi Express 128 and various hardware synths.

The Motu arrived yesterday and all the installationseemed to go ok - and MOTO confirm this from looking at the system file. But having set it up in Logic Pro I find that after a few notes playing notes seem to hang and stay on - as though no MIDI off note was sent. This is worse if I send MIDI clock out to my synths. I have no idea why this is so. I'm wondering if there is something that i am missing in setting up MIDI in Logic. I am setting my Outputs and channels appropriately - so instruments are only communicating direct with Logic - no daisy chaining. If I turn everything off except one instrument I get the same problem.

Please HELP!!!!

I'll try anything - and if you need more information to help please ask!!

David

It's not Mavericks per se. I have 2 MacBook Airs both running the same version of Mavericks. The only difference is the model (a 2012 and a 2014). Both have USB 3.

When I got the new 2014 model I hooked it up to my MOTU MIDITimepiece AV both with and without a USB 2 hub and I got skips, missed and hanging notes.

When I swapped the computers everything was fine again. The new models have something wrong with either the USB controller or a driver issue. My older MacBook Air still needs the USB hub but I have no issues with it otherwise.

I don't mind having the USB 2 hub in there as I have to hook up a couple of other USB devices.

The MOTU Express 128 never worked for me on Mavericks it wasn't the last update that caused the problem

Ok thanks-

The reason I ask is a friend with a Roland MIDI interface had intermittent behavior under Mavericks but he found it usable, just a few hanging notes here and there, after the 10.9.5 update it's now unusable. (I should add, this is an older USB 2.0 computer)

In your case (With a USB 2.0 machine) it's strictly the interaction of Mavericks and the Express 128 drivers.

From a client of mine...

"My 128 Express works fine with Mavericks 10.9.4 and the latest Motu Drivers when used with a USB2 port on my older Macs. It doesn't work correctly when used with any USB3 Device such as my new Macbook Pro unless I use a USB2 powered hub between the 128 and the USB3 port and even then it's somewhat temperamental. Motu have told me they are working on a new driver for the 128 that should fix the problems when used with a modern USB3 Mac with Yosemite and will not need a USB2 powered hub."

This is currently what I believe the situation to be to based on other reports...

So I'm not sure that Jakob's issue is being caused by the USB3 issue .(because he has the issue when using USB2 ported Macs) or OS X itself.... but rather either a problem with his Motu... or Incorrect or conflicting drivers installed... (Like Avid/Pro Tools related Midi drivers for example..)
