Logic Pro X Hanging Notes with Motu Express 128

Hi,

I have Logic Pro X 10.0.7. with Mac OS X10.9.4 @ GHz Intel Core 7 8GB Ram, Mac Book Pro, MOTU Midi Express 128 and various hardware synths.

The Motu arrived yesterday and all the installationseemed to go ok - and MOTO confirm this from looking at the system file. But having set it up in Logic Pro I find that after a few notes playing notes seem to hang and stay on - as though no MIDI off note was sent. This is worse if I send MIDI clock out to my synths. I have no idea why this is so. I'm wondering if there is something that i am missing in setting up MIDI in Logic. I am setting my Outputs and channels appropriately - so instruments are only communicating direct with Logic - no daisy chaining. If I turn everything off except one instrument I get the same problem.

Please HELP!!!!

I'll try anything - and if you need more information to help please ask!!

David

Ok,

i found a host of Digi MIDI Drives i am not using under MacPro//Library//Audio//Midi Drivers & got rid of them,

i don't know how to check both the system library & user library as i can't find the correct folders,

i have given it a test & things seem to be much improved however i still got a hanging note but this time it was after quite some time (usually they are much more frequent)

the drivers i am still using are AKAI MPC Midi Plugin, Motu Midi Driver, NIUSBMaschineControllerMidiDriver,

please let me know in more detail if you can how to check the system & user library for problematic drivers

Ah! Digidesign (AKA Avid these days....) Midi stuff.. the most common cause of issues....

User Library in Mavericks

Open your home folder (/Users/yourusername) in the Finder. Depending on your Finder settings, this may be as easy as simply opening a new Finder window. Otherwise, choose Home from the Finder’s Go menu (Go > Home); or press Shift-Command-H.

Still in the Finder, choose View > Show View Options (or press Command-J).

Near the bottom of the resulting View-Options palette is a setting called Show Library Folder. Enable this option. Your Library folder is immediately visible.

Close the View-Options palette.

System Library is found in the root of your System Drive....

Just to confirm...

you restarted your Mac yes?

you have installed the very latest midi drivers from the motu website?

the midi keyboard you are usng... If you are using one... Are you just connected via a midi out from the keyboard to an in on the motu? If you have connected both in and out.. Remove the in from the keyboard and test.....

if you are not usng a midi keyboard then what are you using?

Ok.. and that only the external midi device (which is what?) is being affected by the hanging notes?

If not, then its not your Motu but something going on with the Akai.... as the Motu isnt being used for anything else except sending midi data to the external device.... You can test this by unplugging the motu and restarting your Mac and testing again....

Okay.. this is making a lot more sense....

(and thanks for sticking with this process of troubleshooting..)

So if it only happens with the Korg TR Rack (or any other midi rack device you have tested..) then to rule out everything else...

1) Look at the Event List in Logic ... for one of these tracks and see if you have duplicated notes or other weird midi data..... in there..

2) The other possibility is the midi cable you are using... from the Motu to the Korg.... Can you or have you switched cables to make sure its not an issue with the one you are using?

if it's neither of these then.. Yes, it looks like its some issue with the Motu (or one of the remaining other Midi drivers you have installed) though frankly I can't work out what... given you are connected directly to a USB2 port... as I have a couple of clients using the 128 via USB2 ports on older macs with Mavericks and LPX and they aren't having any issues with external midi devices or external midi tracks...
