iTunes 11.3.1 stops working when opened in 'Podcasts' view

After the latest update installed in last few days on Windows 7, iTunes often crashes on startup, at about the time it is accessing iTunes store (fine before the update). It does not happen if iTunes is opened in 'Music' view, but changing then to the 'Podcasts' view and clicking the podcast 'refresh' button causes crash again. It is worse on some user accounts than others.

Have tried:

- Complete reinstallation of iTunes

- Deleting preferences files in the Local and Roaming directories.

- Copying a QT dll to the iTunes program files directory (as mentioned on another thread)

- The other suggestions in this link iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

Any ideas?

The "new" iTunes has certainly been a disaster for me. The older version was a pleasure to deal with - automatic updating, filing, etc. Now I struggle to get my podcasts sorted.

Have experienced the "not working" result numerous times with the latest updates.

It seems that if I go into Store immediately, then let the podcasts update, I can get through.

Still, I expect better from Apple.

I've tried all sorts of different ways to see if I can get the podcasts to not freeze or make iTunes quite or make it unresponsive, but there's just no consistent method that I've found. Sometimes one way works and the same way doesn't work the next time. I'm surprised Apple hasn't found a fix for this problem.

I also found the older version(s) worked quite well -- and this version is just a complete failure. What were you thinking, Apple?
