iTunes 11.3.1 stops working when opened in 'Podcasts' view

After the latest update installed in last few days on Windows 7, iTunes often crashes on startup, at about the time it is accessing iTunes store (fine before the update). It does not happen if iTunes is opened in 'Music' view, but changing then to the 'Podcasts' view and clicking the podcast 'refresh' button causes crash again. It is worse on some user accounts than others.

Have tried:

- Complete reinstallation of iTunes

- Deleting preferences files in the Local and Roaming directories.

- Copying a QT dll to the iTunes program files directory (as mentioned on another thread)

- The other suggestions in this link iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

Any ideas?

Can anyone verify if these two podcast problems have also been fixed?

1) do deleted podcasts keep showing up in smart playlists (even though they're gone from Podcasts|List view)

2) can you delete podcasts from smart playlists using SHIFT-DEL

Last month I rolled back to 11.0.5.5 (which is about a year old); it was the last release that worked before all the podcast problems appeared. I refuse to update again until at least #1 is fixed. The only way I can listen to podcasts using my car's controls is from a playlist so this is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks,

I've downloaded the latest iTunes update for W7 64-bit which no longer freezes in list view of Podcasts, but it's still showing deleted podcasts in the sync device list. I still can't select only the podcasts I want to download from the library view -- it show all of them no matter what I do.

Haven't tried deleting with shift-delete command.
