how to have mail not go to the junk mail folder

I switched from Outlook mail to iCloud mail; however, I have email I use to receive in my inbox in Outlook now go to junk mail in my iCloud mail box. How do I get this daily mail to go to my iCloud in box? Please be simplified with your answers. I am 65 and not computer savvy.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

jjbryson, I love your post (even though it's already a year old)! Goes to show how inane Apple's junk mail handling is. And those fools (h/t Old Toad) who repeat the inane Apple how-to's: "If it's marked junk already it'll be in the upper right hand corner of the email window" --- well, the point is that in the OP's query the emails were not marked junk, even though they were moved to the Junk folder. Why can't Apple employ people with a PhD in computer science from MIT who then provide intuitive and logically consistent ways to approve messages so they don't go to the Junk folder?

I am an Apple user since 1992 and don't know any other way. But the junk handling (i.e., how to override the automatic) is just atrocious.

Cheers.

I have run into the same problem and was missing email notifications from my two sons' 2 different high schools. As a work around, I copied the email address for each school and added a rule to make those emails hit my inbox (instead of junk). This should override any default rule(s) that Apple imposes on iCal.

  1. Go to Mail > Preferences... > Rules > Add Rule
  2. Give the rule a name under "Preference:" so you can easily find for editing purposes.
  3. Go back into your junk email and copy the address (if you haven't done so already) that you don't want to go to the junk folder anymore and that you want to land in your inbox for future emails. To copy the address either highlight and right click then choose copy... Or if you are using an Apple mouse or track pad do same but also hold down "control" key on the bottom left hand side of your keyboard.
  4. Now paste the address where you have chosen "From" and "contains".
  5. Under "Perform the following actions:" Choose "Move Message" and "Inbox"
  6. Click "OK"

This should fix the problem.
