My MacBook Pro lately has been running slow.

Hi,

I have an early 2011, 2.3 Ghz, 4GB MacBook pro and lately it has been running slow and lagging horribly. I have downloaded the etreCheck app and ran it and got this:

Good to hear. Please consider using Time Machine. An external USB hard disk backup drive of adequate capacity can be purchased for as little as $55, and Time Machine is free. It requires no intervention, other than to plug in the hard disk drive once in a while.

Hey,

I have a 2013, 2.5 Ghz 4GB Macbook pro and it's running really slow when i open it from putting it in sleep mode. I only shut it completely down occasionally, but lately it takes ages for me to actually type my password in, and then once i'm on it runs really slow. I ran the etreCheck app and it says:

Hello Nick,

It is always better to start a new thread.

I advise you to get rid of the ads generating Safari extensions, all three. Remove them by going to Safari Preferences->Extensions and choosing "uninstall" for each. You might be happy with AdblockPlus instead.

I am not sure DVDf (blu ray) is compatible with Mavericks, otherwise uninstall.

You have to update Adobe Flashplayer.

Uninstall DVDAuthorize.

In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems, remove all three entries, with the minus sign underneath. Then restart.

And, be sure to have a good backup strategy, read John's earlier post in this thread.

I do not see any obvious reason for the considerable slowing down: you have enough ram and enough diskspace.

Maybe it was the DVDAuthorize running always from startup, it might be better after the uninstall of that software.
