Dual 4k support for MacBook Pro Mid 2014

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if you can run 2 external 4k monitors at 60Hz with the latest MacBook Pro? I've got the top spec 15" version and don't feel like buying two screens just to find out...

Cheers,

J

I can report the following with my MacBook Pro Early 2015 (Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB) using dual Dell UP2414Q displays:

  • 4k resolution works on the displays when I have them both of them have DisplayPort 1.2 disabled. This seems to turn off MST.
  • Only one screen lights up when DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on one or both of them.
  • When using 4k resolution (i.e. with DP1.2 disabled) they are limited to 30 Hz.

eliot - I have the same setup with the rMBP Late 2013 and GeForce. Same result as larrysing - both full res and 60Hz. I was looking at this thread because I was actually thinking of replacing the LG with another Dell (same model) - that's how much I prefer the Dell. Mainly because I can run it in "retina" resolutions and the text is so much sharper when I'm coding. From what I read doesn't seem like I can do that and have both at 60Hz. If you decide on the Dell and read this in time, there is a sale on them on eBay - $449! (http://www.ebay.com/itm/331660431603)

15" Mid 2014 or Later: This model can drive up to two 4K displays at 60Hz with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M. The Mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro with AMD Radeon R9 M370X graphics can also drive one 5K display connected with two Thunderbolt cables.

15" Late 2013: This model is equipped with two Thunderbolt 2 ports that can drive one 4K display at 60Hz or two 4K displays at 30Hz. This model also supports one 4K display at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one 4K display at 30Hz over HDMI.
