How do I remove the free U2 album from my iTunes library?

Here's what worked for me: I hid the album in iTunes on my computer... then logged out of iTunes and signed back in from my iPhone (under Settings)... then rebooted the phone. U2 goes bye bye.

Hiding it will achieve the same effect. It won't show up in your cloud list unless you decide at some point you want to listen to it after all and visit the restore hidden purchases section of your account history.

I've gone through all steps in this thread, but still can't get some songs off my phone. I haven't downloaded the songs, but after I turned off Show All Music and reset my device, the 'download from iCloud' icon next to the songs was gone. However, in the Album on my phone it says it only has 7 songs, while the full album is 11 songs. If I try to swipe left to delete the tracks, it just plays them, which only adds to my frustration. Review your sync options when connected to iTunes. If syncing cannot remove unwanted content, backup the device, restore as a new device, then restore from the backup.

You can't delete a track which is not fully downloaded. Attempting to do so by swiping causes the track to start downloading and playing, which is what has frustrated many people, myself included. I never stayed on the track long enough for it to finish downloading, so it remained apparently impossible to delete.

The way I got rid of the U2 album was to go into my iTunes account on my mac and hide it, then on my iPhone log out of my AppleID in Settings > iTunes & App Store, then log back in. Thanks to barbados-slim for that tip. This method avoids the need to turn off 'Show All Music'.

Now if only I could make the Artists icon not be a silhouette of Bono.

Swipe and delete the copy you downloaded, hide the free offer from your download list as has ben explained in this and similar threads endlessly.

On an iOS device you should be able to swipe right to left across the track to bring up a delete option. This may not always work if the track has been partially downloaded or transferred in from your library, or some other problem exists. In such cases syncing with iTunes may resolve. Or you can try removing all music and then adding it back. If you can find no other way to remove the problem tracks backup the device, restore as a new device, then restore the backup you took earlier.

Usually you swipe left on the song and it will delete. I had a song that was stuck and when you swipe left it would play the song!

Apple live chat support had me do this:

Go to Settings > General > Usage > Then find the Music App under Storage and click it. At top hit Edit and Delete to the left of All Music

This will remove it from your phone and ALL OTHER SYNCED MUSIC leaving you to resync your music again.

The only other option they gave me was to backup my whole phone and reset it completely and restore my backup

I have the same problem as you, 1 or 2 songs left.

The steps below worked for me.

You can try:

1) Switch on show all music under (settings>music>show all music)

2) Go back to music app, fully download them by clicking the cloud with arrow icon

3) Delete the downloaded songs by left swiping, it should work now

4) Switch off show all music

Just ignore those unhelpful comments. Sometimes people don't face the same issues and blame it all on user. Don't feed them.

I have found a way to completely wipe the album from you music. 1) physically downloaded in by tapping the cloud you can go to the album. 2) If you see the cloud with the downward pointing arrow try again 3) once downloaded you can now manually delete by using the swipe right deleting one song at a time once you have deleted the last song the album will be erased from your music and iTunes you an thank me later

BTW, you are the iTunes expert, but I have never heard of anyone having an iTunes purchase successfully expunged from their records. Like you said, they can be hidden but never, ever removed permanently AFAIK.

It could also be worth mentioning that I do NOT have iTunes Match. (Some solutions I found by Googling rely on having iTunes Match.)

Neither do I. Realistically I'd expect it be the same as if you bought the album and then decided that you never want to listen to it and want to hide it from your library. You cannot erase the purchase since that is a historical transaction. Your acceptance of the free gift, albeit inadvertent, is likely to be treated in the same way.

For what it is worth while I fully understand that some people would like this gift expunged from their purchase history, I believe that hiding the unwanted content is the only option that is available. At the very least try it, just to see if once hidden you are truly inconvenienced any further.

I have deleted them from itunes on my windows(so they're hidden tracks according to my account)

and on my phone I had to switch off 'show all music' to get rid of the album but two of the songs will not go
