Sorry, I don't dare let Itunes touch my ipod.
Especially now!
Why not?
So rather than let software that has been designed to work with the iPod manage your iPod, you'd prefer to use a third-party programme that was designed to work with something else entirely. I think you're letting some external force cloud your judgement.

Do you mean in itunes, on my computer?
Yes, of course.
iTunes - the programme - is designed to manage your iPod. If you've never used it, how do you know it it's "so bad"? Plenty of people find it perfectly suitable for use with an iPod Classic (me for one).
iTunes - the store - isn't relevant to this discussion.
If you've used another programme to manage your iPod, you've simply introduced another factor into the equation that might be causing the problem - i.e. that maybe - just maybe, Winamp has put a corrupted version of the song onto your iPod. And the reason I suggested playing the song in iTunes is, if iTunes will not play the file, then why should the iPod?
- I can't stress this enough - neither Apple nor iTunes have discontinued support for the iPod Classic, nor has iTunes stopped working with the iPod Classic.
- iTunes can fully manage an iPod Classic and it can create Playlists and copy them to an iPod Classic. I've yet to find an programme that can create Smart Playlists, as iTunes can.
- Far too many people would rather rubbish everything Apple, even though they have invested their own money into buying an Apple product, than learn how to use iTunes.
- If you listen to those who insist on rubbishing iTunes, all you will do is cause yourself problems.
As for your MP3 problem: where did you get the file?
Did you rip it from a CD (in which case, rip it again, preferably using iTunes), did you buy it as an MP3 from a digital store (in which case, see if you can download it again - after trying it in iTunes first ), or did you get it from somewhere else (in which case, you may need to make a judgement on how good a source that MP3 was).
