Once again, this is a user-to-user tech support forum. No one here can speculate about unannounced Apple products

That said, there has never been an "international" iPhone, just as there has never been an international iPhone warranty. All iPhones are country/region specific.

Apple, amazingly does this even though it suits you for it to be otherwise. Don't hold your breath for a change...

Just to clarify,

Anyone can buy contract free ( device only ) Verizon from the physical Apple Store( just not apple.com). A contract is NOT necessary.

Device only Verizon are Unlocked on the GSM side OUTside of the United state, so it is not a truly unlocked phone like the factory unlocked version. But it will work perfectly outside of the united states.

Sprint iPhone 5 purchased at full price device only, once again, unlocked outside of the United State on the GSM side. iPhone 6 to be determined.

ALL Phones Sold at Full Price from the Apple Store are unlocked outside of the United State in the past few years.

A good chance the T-Mobile contract free phone will come unlocked as well.

"They were not sold by Apple as contract-free, unlocked phone. You could buy them from Apple only with a Verizon contract. The only unlocked phone listed is the GSM model.

In any event, the A1586 is the Sprint CDMA model iPhone 6, not Verizon. Sprint iPhones have never been shipped unlocked in the GSM/LTE section and there is no such thing as unlocked CDMA iPhones,"

That is not completely true. My sister had an ATT iphone 5 (GSM), that was factory unlocked. She went over to tMobile, and the carrier settings kept resetting to att, and everytime she wanted to use tmobiles LTE, she had to manually input the carriers the APN, MMSC, and the Prof URL. apple ended up giving her a brand new Iphone 5 (GSM) that was "carrier locked" to Tmobile. To make a long story short, she had her iphone stolen and we went to best buy and bought a brand new Iphone 5s(CDMA) from verizon, NO CONTRACT at full price, and connected it to her tmobile account, and she didn't even have to set anything up, it automatically detected the network and worked perfectly fine with tmobiles LTE.

My point is the verizon cdma iphone worked better on Tmoblile GSM network than an ATT iphone GSM did. In addition after that, my friend bought a verizon iphone and gave it as a gift to her boy friend in the dominican republic, and it also works perfectly fine with their network. I also had my iphone 5s unlocked by sprint, and used it when I went on vacation over seas this summer, and it also worked perfectly fine.

So to summarize, from my personal experience, my conclusion is CDMA phones are compatible with all carriers from all over the world, but GSM iphones are not compatible with CDMA networks. Now the problem is sprint will not unlock their phones for domestic use in the U.S. and verizon will not sell their phones without some sort of commitment or contract. A tmobile iphone is a great idea, since it is unlocked, unless you are planning to connect it on a CDMA network, then you just wasted your money.

In conclusion to prevent all of these unfortunate experiences and circumstances apple should sell all of their phones unlocked, and if the people want to buy it at a cheaper price with a carrier or people want to upgrade, then sell those phones carrier locked. But if I pay full price for my phone, the phone should belong to me and I should be able to connect it at what ever network I feel like, even if its the ******* moon. This ******** of you paying full prize for a sprint Iphone, and then not having the freedom of going to another carrier if you want is ********. That is not how the free market works or competition between cellular phone providers, and shame on apple for not taking a stand against this injustice against their customers.

I am sorry for making this so long but it is also illegal what companies like sprint is doing. This was the FCC ruling on carrier unlocking in 2013 http://www.ctia.org/docs/default-source/fcc-filings/ctia-letter-on-unlocking.pdf, and then again it was updated on February 11 2014, which in my interpretation states that after a costumer has fulfilled certain conditions of the carrier, the carrier MUST unlock the device upon the costumers request to promote competition and strengthen the free market for the consumers. ATT and Tmobile does it, but Sprint loops hole this by only offering an international unlock not "domestic." Why hasn't apple said or done anything about it considering its their loyal costumers the ones that are suffering from these technicality. Or maybe apple is just thinking of profit, you buy and iphone from sprint, and even though it is yours, if you want to switch carriers you have to buy another iphone if you want to use verizon, even though both phones are ******* CDMA.

No. She didn't. There is NO SUCH THING. It can be unlocked by AT&T, yes. But an AT&T iPhone can not be "factory unlocked".

You don't know what you're talking about.

Not to mention the fact that the FCC document you link to is a voluntary agreement by some of the carriers in the US. It is not a guarantee that any phone you purchase will actually be compatible with any other US carrier.

Apple doesn't do anything about it because they can't legally do anything about it.

Even with a 7% sales tax, its still cheaper than buying it in any other country. moreover I keep travelling to us so the country warranty limitation won't be of an issue. I plan to call US cellular and enquire about the unlocking policy, but from what I have heard US cellular is very much against unlocking, so the people who want to buy the unlocked a1586 model rom the US are kind of stuck.

Also eventually when apple releases the unlocked version of the iPhone 6 in the US, it may be the T-mobile model and not the A1586.
