first of all you can't tell me what I experienced running around from carrier to carrier and then ending up at the apple store. I am telling you what happened. I never said att factory unlocked the phone, I said she had a factory unlocked AT&T phone. It was an iphone 5 and at the time she bought it there were third party internet companies that would factory unlock it through the imei, look it up. I don't have to prove anything to you. Secondly, I said that that ruling was updated on February 11th and once again a couple of months ago. So considering you went under assumptions and don't know what you ware talking about, it's best if you would update yourself on what the new law is before trying to interpret what the old one said. Lastly, before apple rep replaced it, he looked on the computers to verify that it was legally factory unlocked and because of that was the reason they gave her a brand new iphone 5, black 64gb locked to tmobile. Do you want more details, I can tell you which apple store and the name of the representative. So for next time don't assume, you know the phrase of when people assume
Again, she did not have a "factory unlocked AT&T" phone. She had an AT&T phone that was apparently hacked to provide unlocking. There is a difference.
If it was hacked apple wouldn't have replaced it and given her a new phone. Because if apple honor warrantees even when their devices are hacked, then you are right and it was probably hacked. But until i know that apple insures hacked phones, I will believe it was factory unlocked. You can look it up. Imei unlock.
Those "third party internet companies" offer illegal services.
Believe me, I'm fully up to date on the law. Unless you've passed the bar, you don't even want to go there.
The only thing I can suggest is to "carry on as if you knew what you were doing"
My point is, if it was illegal, why didn't apple look up in theor system if the phone was legally unlocked and second why give her a new phone. Are you suggesting that she bought a factory unlocked iphone from apple and they gave her AT&T service on it? Because that could also be a possibility, I don't know where or how it was unlocked, all I know it was factory unlocked and it was connected to AT&T. And if that was the case that apple sold her a factory unlocked phone, why replace it with a tmobile locked phone? Because I wasn't there for the whole unlock ordeal but I was there for everything else. Please if you can think of an logical explanation, I would lI've to hear it.
Go take a look at MacRumors forum for the iPhone 6. There are countless number of people verifying that their iPhone 6 bought at full retail price from a physical Apple store is unlocked. I couldn't find anyone who claimed otherwise.

Including the A1586 ,the subject of this thread ???
Can someone please confirm if the sprint iPhone bought at full price from the apple store is unlocked?
it is definitely locked, as are all Sprint phones.
The term "factory unlocked" in reference to iPhones is completely meaningless. iPhones are either sold as locked and are still locked, sold as locked and have been unlocked by the carrier, or sold as unlocked. Apple does not use the term "factory unlocked" at all.

Whatever. Apple's documentation is clear. They do NOT sell unlocked iPhones in Japan. End of discussion. If you want to argue about it, go argue on MacRumors.
Who's arguing about it? The fact remains Apple sells "device only" iPhones in the USA which come unlocked. If they do something different in Japan, it's not of much concern to virtually everyone here.
I recently spoke to a representative stating that the tmobile version are unlocked, which is GSM. But the question remains if the cdma versions(verizon or sprint) can be bought unlocked?
The answer to that question, which has been posted here too many times to count, won't change no matter how many times you ask!
