Macbook Pro I5 mid 2010 is running slow

Let me explain something to you about the dynamics of "etrecheck." I don't use for that program myself, but I do see what happens when others use it. It was developed so that others could try to imitate what I do on this site. The very limited output that it produces tends to be viewed by those with very limited understanding as a laundry list of things to be cleaned up. That usually leads to what I believe would be called in your language "etrecheckhol," if that means anything.

For example, "Alfred" is just an application. You don't need to remove it to find out whether it's causing a problem. You just need to quit it. Even that is a waste of time, because there's no evidence and no reason to believe that it's slowing down your computer. Then there are the Samsung drivers. Those drivers are not loaded. Even the "etrecheck" output shows that. The drivers load on demand. When they're not loaded, they have no effect at all. None. Removing them could not possibly make any difference, except to deprive you of their functionality, which you may need. It's just time-wasting, destructive nonsense. It's because of things like this that I discourage the use of "etrecheck."

Er is nog een bibliotheek met extensies. Daar moet je erg voorzichtig in zijn: je disk, dan systeem, dan bibliotheek adn extensies, het is mogelijk dat die samsung dingen daar in zitten. Zeg me of je ze vindt, zoniet is er nog een simpele methode om ze te vinden en weg te gooien.

I do not advise to uninstall an app to see if it causes a problem or not, they just have to go because they are unneeded or not correctly programmed or not compatible or not functional or downright wrong or not from a trusted site or not safe or without uninstall instructions or from a not known source (partly your list, Linc).

About etrecheck from John Daniels: was it perhaps the other way around? or was it because it produces a readable output?

1. You have a serious problem: you have CleanMyMac installed. Normally this is enough to choke, or even kill, your mac.

Read in a lot of threads here, what the consequences are.

What did you do with it, exact description please. There maybe a chance that you do not have to do a clean install of the OS on a formatted startup disk...

2. There is also this: you have Sophos installed and it runs continuously: this is not the best, do this:

In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems remove the entries, with the minus sign underneath,

then restart,

then uninstall Sophos completely, according to the developers instructions.

If you want to use Sophos (this one of the very few av apps, that does not harm) install it again, but only for manual scans! An alternative is ClamXav (Appstore).

3. IMHO the app LittleSnitch should be uninstalled, it does not really do anything for you. Together with Sophos, this should remove all kexts in the list.

4. I have no experience with Caiaq, and NativeImstruments. I am not a supporter of Valvesoftware.

Let's have the answer on point 1 asap, please.
