Upgraded to iTunes 11.4 and now it won't sync my iPhone 5s-sync button is greyed out.

just a quick info: downgrade to 11.3.1 helped, same issue over here, tried for hours syncing music from my itunes / desktop or even changing playlists - except deleting entries, that worked - with my iphone 5s with ios8 on my osx10.6.8 after upgrading itunes to 11.4; and i failed. after i downgraded itunes it immediately started to work again, syncing works fine. also creating a backup finally works again. used the instruction provided by user luv* in another thread by deleting the .app and some components, so thank you!

cwa2's fix worked for me so I could downgrade to 11.3. However I still would like 11.4 to work so I can upgrade to iOS 8.

If we downgrade to iTunes 11.3.1 Can we still upgrade our iPhones to iOS 8.0 and have them work with the old version of iTunes. Anyone do this yet?

Well, I did the downgrade and all seems to have worked perfectly. Still have not upgraded my iPhone to iOS 8 yet. Waiting to see if that is OK and if all will still work. Thanks to cwa2 for his awesome instructions.

I realized I could not sync when I went to upgrade to iOS 8 on my wife's iPhone 5S. Since it rarely is connected I never knew the iTunes update was an issue until yesterday. What was weird is that it DID upgrade the phone to iOS 8 just fine - but wouldn't sync. Found @cwa2 's fix and all is good. The phone DOES have iOS 8 and the iTunes ver is 11.3.1. All has tested perfectly.

So glad I found this thread. Sadly, it was after I restored without a proper backup available 😢 Couldn't sync and iTunes 11.4 was showing everything on my 5s as Other. I followed the instructions and reverted back to 11.3.1. Upgraded to iOS 8 and am able to backup and sync without issue. Hoping Apple addresses this.. not really looking to upgrade when this '06 clunker still gets the job done.

I'm on the same wagon as you, more or less: 2006 MBP with 2Gb of RAM (can't go any higher), and I got the same problem, of course. I hope an 11.4.1 version of iTunes is already in the works somewhere in the belly of the beast...

Some users managed to solve the issue with the help of a (reputable) third-party app called DeTune (here: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35334/detune). I haven't tried it myself, but I may resort to a desperate measure, push come to shove...

well this is great.

I did the downgrade and my iphone 5 could sync again. But today my iphone 6 arrived (yay!), but that needs the newer version - so I upgraded. However, that also won't sync - just greyed out. And ip6 NEEDS itunes 14... so what to do?!? 😟

After downgrade to 11.3.1 the sync with my 5s on IOS 8 works perfect!

I updated via iTunes

I updated via iTunes 11.4. That was the weird thing to me. It wouldn't sync but would upgrade iOS.

Same thing happened to me : upgraded, then downgraded, got iP6, upgraded again, doesn't work. The restoration worked fine, but then when I went to add other content it went right back to the fuzzed out sync button and yellow "other" status bar.

I'm sorry but this is complete BS.
