itunes 11.4 crashes when syncing apps to ipad / iphone

hey everyone, maybe the knowledge of the many may help, as I am rather at a loss right now!

after installing itunes 11.4, my trouble started! running 64 bit version on windows 8.1 - and latest iOS on both devices

all windows updates installed, all drivers for whatever is running on this machien are also up to date

connecting either ipad or iphone to computer, when itunes starts to sync, it gets to the point of "syncing apps to iPAD", it tries to add the first app - and crashes for good!

and yep, I went thru all the suggested thingies recommended on here:

iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717

windows pops up "itunes has stopped working" ... so I headed over to the Windows Event viewer, and for the moment, itunes crashes, I find these two entries in the log file - tried a search on here, google as well, to no avail:

Hi barbino

You're not the only one having this problem, I'm running the 32bit version of 11.4 on windows 7 and I'm having a very similar problem as you.

It crashes when I sync apps to my iPAD and iPod Touch, but it works ok when synced my iPhone 4S?

My Windows Event looks the sames as yours

I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, no joy. But I have got a sort of work around for the problem. I updated all my iPhone apps on the device before I connected it to iTunes. I tried it with my iPad and iPod Touch both had all their apps updated on the device before syncing to iTunes and no syncing of apps so no crash. It's not a fix, but at least iTunes doesn't crash now. Let hope version 12.0 fixes the problem.

Hope this helps.

I was on the phone with Apple support on Tues for over an hour and Wednesday for over 1.5 hours, not to mention my company's IT support desk for over 2.5 hours. After all that, no resolution was found and Apple support had me send them zip files of some diagnostics from my computer and sent them to the programmers. I am supposed to get a call back tonight at 10 PM EST, hopefully they will have a fix that I can share with you all - fingers crossed.

This is ridiculous. I've wasted far too many hours on researching a workaround. Until iTunes comes up with a solution (new release with bugs fixed), I'm going to pretend my iPhone is a dumb phone and good for calls only. Syncing should mean syncing. And not take a frickin computer science degree to figure out a workaround.

I'm also experiencing the issue described here - to the point where I have followed all of the steps in relation to Apps to get that to eventually work but am now experiencing the problem with syncing my music. This is extremely frustrating.

What I have also noticed is that when another application now tries to sync files to my NAS, I get a Windows Error that closes all Windows Explorer windows.

I think the issue is much bigger than just iTunes Sync but was created by iTunes 11.4

All thoughts would be appreciated.

Why are WE coming out with solutions. I'm ****** to the CORE! Are you not making enough money apple? Can't find anybody to fix the problem or is it because it is Windows, so you're taking your time?? I'm a business owner and you are causing me grief! I just bought the 6Plus 128 and am thinking of returning it and waiting for the note 4!! In light of all the issues you have had on this launch, I suggest you drop your prices since you can hardly claim you have a quality product. I would rather have waited another month and had it work well, than go through this aggravation.Maybe you did rush it to beat the Note 4 launch. In any case, clean up your act or I'm going to Android for GOOD!

Well, now it crashed - again! 😟 I created a brand new windows-account in Windows 7 and I managed to get 944 songs, out of 3082. I bought this 64gb 5s because of the only purpose - to have mostly music in it. I guess I have to be satisfied until Apple solves this stupid problem with Windows. Not sure how it's in Mac, maybe same?

I solved mine in a few minutes. Mine was as simple as deleting a couple apps causing issues (shaded dark and "waiting") on both my iPhone and ipad and then removing in iTunes and all was fine. I reinstalled the same apps and it still worked fine. I can't explain it but that's what worked.

A couple of friends that had a similar issue with syncing both the IOS and ITunes update and this is what I did. Copy the music to a new folder temporarily, delete the music in your iTunes library and iphone, iPad, etc and delete any apps that were shaded (if any), imported all of the songs from the temp folder I created back to iTunes and the sync worked just fine. Took all of about 15 minutes or so. I don't know if this will solve your issues but I hope it helps.

As much as you read about the issue on the web I would bet it's an extremely small percentage of people having a problem but that doesn't appear that way when you're one of those people. I hope you all find a solution quickly. Good Luck!!,

This is the solution guys, I have just been helped on AV Forums and its the best solution and answer available

What I did was created a new file location and moved all the folders across, deleted iTunes and all software then installed it again

Connected the iPad and it created new folders and worked....I just need to move the older fie across

i think lol

I have been fighting this problem for the last couple of days as well.. I tried anything and everything to get it to work with my iTunes library on an UnRAID server to no avail. I finally copied the library to my C: drive and still had the issue of crashing when syncing apps. When using "get info" on apps I was able to see that even though the library was now on the C: drive, it was still using the original network path for the app location. I went back and renamed the iTunes folder on the network and when re-starting iTunes it now recognized everything as being on the C: drive and app syncing worked.

This is a bandaid, not a fix, but if anyone is still having issues after moving their library to a local drive this might help. Now we cross our fingers and hope Apple gets their act together and gets an iTunes update released to fix the problem. I've never seen such a poor release from Apple considering all the issues with iOS 8 and these syncing issues...

Tried this fix and it didn't work.

took a couple hours to process the apps too!

Very frustrating to get the new 6+ and not be able to sync apps, music, and photos!

Another work-around that I found is that you don't have to copy your entire media library from NAS to local drive, only the App files (.ipa files). I'll try to post screenshots later, but the basic steps are:

  1. In iTunes, go to Library -> Apps -> All
  2. Assuming that all of your apps are in one folder somewhere, right-click on any App and select 'Show in Windows Explorer'
  3. In the Windows Explorer window that opens up, copy all the files to a local disk somewhere.
  4. In iTunes, select all (CTRL+A) of the Apps and hit the Delete key. Make sure that you just Remove the files from iTunes, not Delete them on the disk.
  5. Drag all the files from Windows Explorer (in the new, local disk location) back to iTunes. It will process all of them and add them back to the library.

(side note: if it asks about already having a file, just go ahead and tell it to replace with the newer one)

  6. Now when you sync it shouldn't crash.

I ran in to this tonight because I tried to update my iPad Air to iOS 8, but it failed and went in to restore mode. After moving the Apps to local disks it is syncing just fine without crashing.

Another variation to try is just to remove and re-add all of the Apps from the NAS without copying them to see if it works. I haven't tried that, so I don't know.

I have the iPhone 6, so I have to use iTunes 11.4. If you can keep using 11.3.1 (or roll back to it), that's probably the best bet."
