An update on my earlier post about the Best Skins Ever screen protector... it's failing already - peeling up at the corners :-(
Thanks to the last poster for the info on the Skonomi product. I actually bought that screen protector too, however the one they sent me
did not cover that much of the screen and wasn't as well cut as the Best Skins Ever protector (but maybe I received an earlier version?). There are many claims out there (i.e., Zagg) touting "full body coverage", when, by "full", they actually mean about 80%.
It looks like many of us are holding out for this iloome product, but I've already got concerns about that. I'm used to paying $5-$10 for PET film screen protectors that come 2 to a packet. So even if you mess up (which is rare with PET film), you get a second shot at it. Also, with PET film, you can easily lift sections of the protector to remove dust specs with some tape. This way, you end up with a perfect install. PET film products that I've used in the past (e.g., Green Onions and Steinheil oleophobic films) then look so good you can't see them at all. However, out of the several dozen PET film installs I've done (even in super-steamy bathrooms), I have never ever achieved a 100% dust-free install in one shot. There's always a few dust specs that prevent the film from adhering perfectly without bubbles. But PET film lets you remove that dust, spec by spec, by partial lifting the screen protector and using scotch tape. You don't have that luxury with the invisible shield/Skinomi/Best-Skins-Ever-type screen protectors. If you get dust under those in step one, it's not coming off. It's the same story with most tempered glass protectors - you get one shot at it. Based on my previous experience installing similar devices, the odds of me achieving a perfect install in one shot is basically zero. Maybe the result will still be good enough to tolerate, but either way, $25 for one shot is kind of pricey.
I'm looking forward to hearing some feedback on the iloome temperered glass protector from any willing guinea pigs early adopters ;-)
