Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Incoming emails to my .me account are not arriving. I can send emails but not receive them.

I use a .me account and have done for a decade or more, originally it was a .mac address..

Suddenly none of my incoming emails are arriving, I can send but not receive.

No message has been sent to me and I don't understand why.

Lost in the clouds?

Still struggling to synch my mail with the cloud, if I go to systems prefs then cloud, then click on mail it just says 'Setting up' and nothing happens, I was halfway through doing the set up earlier in the day when it sent a text with a verification code to my phone which wasn't in the house and I had to stop. If I try to close the cloud panel it says "If you turn off documents and data, all documents stored in icloud will be deleted from this mac, your documents will still be aviable on other devices using the cloud."

That is the last thing I want to do as I don't have any other devices or really understand what the cloud is.

This is horrible.

All I am ytring to do is make sure that I have enough space to accept emails.

What a nightmarish waste of time this has proved to be, and furthermore, to keep going I have had to subscribe to more space on the cloud.

Help please!

If you have signed into iCloud in System Preferences, you might want to go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete from Mac at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in. Any data synced with iCloud will remain in iCloud. It will temporarily be removed from your Mac but will download back to your Mac when you sign back in after restarting.

How do I know that I am successfully synched?

At systems preferences, then to icloud, I am signed in and have checked the boxes on the left.

Below that it tells me that I have 15.14GB of 20GB available, but that is what it said I had just for the mail before I bought the extra space.

I really do not understand what is going on. If all my data is on the cloud, where is there any evidence?

I have more than 9,000 photos on my hard drive and nearly 105Gb of music, so clearly they are not on the cloud.

Can someone please explain what exactly the icloud is, does for us and how to use it efficiently?

And am I synched?

Go to iCloud.com from your computer browser and sign into your account. Then you can launch the mail, contacts, calendar and other apps there and see if your data appears. If it does, you are successfully syncing with iCloud. But I don't think you understand what to expect from iCloud. It's primary purpose is to keep your data in sync across your computers and mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch). This gives and overview: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0efea4. It's not designed to free up space on your Mac. It syncs data with all your devices/computers, it doesn't move your data to iCloud to free up space on your Mac. And the data it syncs are the data sets you checked in System Preferences>iCloud, which doesn't include music. It does stream copies of photos to iCloud so they become available to view across all your devices, but it doesn't move them to iCloud and delete them from your hard drive.

Thanks again, I wasn't looking to free up space on my laptop it has 750 GB of memory, so no problem there.

It seems odd that because the original 5mb of free cloud memory was full, I could no longer receive email on the laptop, but I guess this is how Apple makes a profit from the cloud as I then had to take out a subscription for more space.

It takes for ever to decide what to delete from a decade of email, some of it may prove of use in the future, who knows, but sub is cheap enough.

Many thanks for all your help,

All the best,

Mike
