iOS 8 installation on 8GB iPhone 5c

I have an 8GB iPhone 5c and there is physically not enough room to download iOS 8, I have nothing on it other than a few apps. After getting the iPhone home the capacity was only 5.9GB, which means once a couple of apps are installed the capacity is almost full.

I want to do the update but it'll mean my phone will be completely empty if I do, why did Apple sell an 8GB phone if they know their software is too large for it!!!

Does anyone know of any way that I can enlarge my phone space without having to pay to increase my iCloud storage?

Or does anybody know where I can complain for having an item falsely sold to me?

Apple begs to differ:

So is T-MOBILE

T-Mobile still has old 16Gb stock left. Once that is gone, they will only be able to sell the 8GB. As that is all apple is making now for the 5C.

Basically, T-Mobile sells what Apple provides. Stock levels not withstanding.

I also have this problem. I have also tried to update via iTunes to no avail, it still states not enough space. I have deleted absolutely everything off my phone and I mean everything I can delete (photos, mails, messages, contacts, every app) and it only gives me 4.4GB of space when 4.7GB is needed! The only things left showing are:

Photostream 167MB (despite being deleted and can no longer access iCloud via PC to delete due to iDrive update)

Messages 13.6MB (again despite being deleted)

Mail 7.3MB (you guessed it even though deleted)

Calendars & reminders 5.5MB (yep same here)

I am so ultra p'd off with apple right now!
