iPhone 5s with iOS 8 connection problems to Ford Sync system.

I just upgraded my iPhone 5s's operating system to the iOS 8 today. At the end of the workday, I got in my car an plugged my iPhone into my car's USB charger. I have a Ford Fusion with the Microsoft Sync system and once my phone is connected and in the vehicle, the car usually detects my phone through the USB and over bluetooth. The connection to the phone for call purposes works fine, but when I go to use the Sync connection with my phone over USD and Bluetooth, the system takes longer than normal to recognize my phone and then when it does, it displays what music is playing, but there is no sound. This problem did not begin until I downloaded the new iOS today. This morning on my drive to work with the previous iOS, there were no issues.

Please advise on how to correct this problem. I drive a lot for work and the Sync system is a huge help in passing the time. I can easily change my phone, not my car.

Thank you,

Ramos

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, the voice commands once again work when I have the iPhone connected via USB to my Ford Escape using Ford's SYNC. I can finally once again use the voice commands with audio playback. This is the 1st time I have been able to do that since before getting my iPhone 6 & my iPhone 4S was still using iOS 7.1.1.

I really wish Apple would spend more time testing their software products before releasing them instead of making the users be their testers because I'm now dealing with yet another Apple software issue: Safari not working in their latest Mac OS: Yosemite. (There's a separate discussion for that.)

I have a 2011 Ford F150 Platinum, an iPhone 5s (as does my husband) and we both upgraded to iOS8 and then 8.1. Since doing the OS upgrade our phones will "connect" to bluetooth but they will NOT play ANY music (phones show music playing & go silent but no sounds comes through the truck speakers) and it acts like phone calls are going through but, again, no sound and then a dropped connection.

I have done a Master Reset on the truck, deleted both of our phones, gone into the bluetooth on the phones and selected Forget Device, repaired them and it still does NOT work. I haven't bothered trying the USB cord after seeing all the other reviews which said it doesn't work either.

This is EXTREMELY frustrating!! If anyone gets a solid fix please share ASAP ~ Thank you!!

Please try one more thing... after you delete SYNC from your phone. Turn the phone off and on three times. I know, it seems silly, but it worked for me. Before you attempt to sync them again, make sure everything is deleted from both bluetooth systems in regard to each other; e.g., remove the phone from the radio and sync from the phone. Then try to sync them again.

In case anyone else is still dealing with this issue:

OMG. TODAY I GOT A FIX!!! I have lived with this issue for MONTHS and spent hours researching. I have a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport that would stick on "Confirming the media" whenever my iPhone 6 was connected to USB. Once again I emailed Mitsubishi AND THIS TIME THEY HAD A FIX! Here it is:

Go to settings menu on iPhone. Choose music. TURN OFF "SHOW ALL MUSIC." I rebooted iPhone (probably not necessary but I did it anyway). Plugged iPhone into USB on car. IT WORKS! I can't really believe this easy fix and can't believe I didn't try it during my hours of troubleshooting. This may only help Mitsubishi owners, but give it a try!

I encountered the same problem yesterday but found a solution.

I connected my iPhone to the SYNC system via Bluetooth. After I played music on iPhone, there is no sound from the speaker of iPhone, which was expected. However there is no sound from the speaker of 2013 Fusion, too. Yet the iPhone indicated that the sound went out through SYNC and keep playing.

My solution is that: Press the "Voice" button on the right hand side of the steering wheel. Then the system will ask you to say a commend. Then you say "Bluetooth Audio". After a few seconds, sounds come out from the speakers in the car. At the same time, the screen shows "Bluetooth Audio Streaming" something like that.

Those guys who connected cellphone to the car via USB may say commend "USB" instead. And the system will start streaming audio from USB. (displayed "SYNC USB" on the screen.) I checked this with iPod Classic 3 160GB. No problem.

Here's a video from youtube and you can check it out.

If the screen displayed "Bluetooth Audio Streaming" but there is still no sounds. Then maybe something truly goes wrong.

PS: I use iPhone 6 with iOS 8.2, 2013 Ford Fusion.

Hope it will work.

TThank you lanternD I also have this problem. But I was able to use ios8 for several weeks before it occurred. I will try your solution and report back if it works for me. I did wonder though if the fix is a toggle on the sync voice button, maybe the issue is ford sync. Because Bluetooth works perfectly on my Apple TV and other BT systems.

Yes. It's definitely SYNC's issue. Because by default, the SYNC will choose "LINIE IN" as the media source. If you connect to the system via Bluetooth. It may add one more source onto the list but will not switch to that automatically. That should be a difference between other BT systems you mentioned.

I realized that the system will continue using the last media source if it is not removed. I used USB for songs in car these days. However, there exists a re-connection process between Bluetooth devices and the car in every drive. And this may be a source of the problem.
