Where did photostream and Cameraroll go in iOS 8?

I can't seem to find my photostream or Camera roll albums in iPhone 5 and iPad Air running iOS 8, in addition, the All imported album on iPad, which is the accumulated total images imported to the iPad through the camera connection kit, is now gone, as well.

I have enabled iCloud Drive, but I cannot work out how to use it, can anyone help?

The biggest frustration is actually the missing photostream and camera roll

iPhone 5, iOS 7

So I too, after iOS8 update was missing the Photo Stream photos and was freaking out. But I figured out how to get them back on my phone:

1) From Mac's iPhoto APP, select an event of photos you'd like, go to "Share", and select "iCloud" in the drop-down menu.

2) You will then see the photos show up in your phone's "Recently Added" album. Then in "Albums" you tap on the "+" on the upper left hand corner to create a new album.

3) Select the event that you'd like, and all the photos in it should now be separate into the album you just created.

Takes a little long if you don't have good internet download speed. But I'm relieved that now I have my photos at my disposal again. And even better now that they are separated into different albums for easier viewing access.

Hope this helps!

I take all my photos off my iOS devices and back them up so fortunately I have not lost anything but I've noticed that the 'Recently added' and 'Moments' (Albums??) are limited to 1000 photos I.e. add one in by taking a photo with the camera and the oldest disappears. So if I keep taking photos I start losing the old ones. From what I have read some people have different options under settings. Under Settings 'Photos and Camera' the photo stream option is still present, yet I can't see a photo stream in the photos app. Anyone considering upgrading to iOS 8 should make sure they get all the photos off of the devices and out of photostream and backed up before the upgrade! Is this a common problem or is it because I have photostream enables on a Mac?

When you upgrade, you won't lose anything, what was in your Camera Roll will still be in Recently Added and physically on your device. photostreamed stuff will also be there, if not physically.

If you turn off Photostream in iCloud settings what will be left in Recently Added will be the old Camera Roll. Turn Photostream back on and they reappear.

AS far as I can tell, if you use iPhoto, when you connect your device, you'll see the photos physically added to the device asking if you want to import them. No need to if you have Photostream imported to your library.

I think I like this when I think through it. It probably avoids duplicates and saves storage on the devices. I see the problems for people who store all the photos they take on the device and have Photostream turned on.

But before upgrading it would be good to empty Camera Roll because it will be difficult to separate these photos out.

Unfortuantely most people will not be able to think like the Apple engineers would like. Many people let the photos pile up in the camera roll without limit. The article linked says you wont lose anything, but I can see as I take more pictures, the recently added folder adds the new picture and removes the oldest. The same happens in the moments display, the oldest moments are removed as the new pictures are added. There may be no time limit on moments but for sure Im only allowed 1000 photos total for all moments. I only noticed this because I had lots of photos in my photo stream which have come across into the moments. Im not sure if my situation is special given that I have an iPhone 5, iPad air and Mac all using photo stream. I hope someone can reasure me that they can see more than 1000 photos in the moments.

iPhones were meant to be just that. A phone with extras. It was never meant to be a complete photo album and eventually will fill up. If people are not prepared to BACKUP their vital data, either to the cloud or preferably to their computer, and then backup to an external drive, then inevitably they are going to lose data, including photos. Don't rely on Apple, Microsoft or Samsung etc. to protect your vital data. Smartphones are great but not idiotproof.

Cheers
