Where did photostream and Cameraroll go in iOS 8?

I can't seem to find my photostream or Camera roll albums in iPhone 5 and iPad Air running iOS 8, in addition, the All imported album on iPad, which is the accumulated total images imported to the iPad through the camera connection kit, is now gone, as well.

I have enabled iCloud Drive, but I cannot work out how to use it, can anyone help?

The biggest frustration is actually the missing photostream and camera roll

The issue about Photo Stream or now Recently Added being limited to 1000/30 days is not about that it's hard to set it, but rather how much iCloud storage that it will occupy 😉 Apple doesn't want to pay anymore Free storage than it prepares to give us. They don't need to. As somebody here said, Photo Stream was only designed for 'temporary' storage. We were supposed to back them up ourselves (if we care about the photos in there) to our PC or Mac (which is not limited by number nor time).

I do still agree that Camera Roll or an equivalent of it should be available, I don't see any reason not to have it back.

Cheers,

Chris

May I add to this thread - it's entirely down to the change, but how you use it on Windows 8.

If I take a photo on my ipad or iphone, it shows on either device.

But I have iCloud on my laptop, yet it's completely confusing.

Whereas we use to see it all in My Photo Stream - upload to there and it appears on devices. Now, you have Uploads, Shared and My Photo Stream. And in the ICloud software link, you have Activity as well.

So it's gone from ONE folder, two FOUR.

The confusing begins here really. If I upload a file to Uploads, it appears on both devices. If I delete it from Uploads, it remains on both devices. If I delete from the devices, it remains on Uploads.

My Photo Stream - I don't know what that is for anymore. It shows only old photos - nothing that is newly taken or uploaded.

Activity - that shows photos I took at the weekend, but isnt showing anything I took as a screenshot on my ipad.

So while all the positivity surrounding it made it appear like they have needed this for years, it's completely cocked up all understanding of how it worked, and I Want to know how you use it effectively. How you avoid double storage use (my photo stream and uploads for example), and how you find a photo in iCloud on your PC, to drag and copy to PC for backup use.

During iOS7, I knew how. In iOS8, I haven't the foggiest!

I have iCloud Drive on, yes.

It's only been there since iOS8 and the iCloud updated on my laptop.

Before, it was just My Photo STream. So I could Add PHotos, and they would appear on all.

Now I have Uploads, and all the others I expressed.

Maybe if you could explain how you add files to My Photo Stream or iCloud, and what the difference is between the two, that may help me.

As perhaps I can just delete the Uploads folder!

The really nice thing about photostream was that it was simple. You didn't have to do anything. Take a pic on one of your Apple devices, and when you enter a place that has wifi, it shows up on your other Apple devices. Then you'd have the pic for whatever use on multiple devices. What is really confusing is I have a 3GS phone that stopped updating at iOS6 and an iPad that's updated to iOS8 and it's not so simple to move the pictures over to the tablet from the phone.

Simon,

Unfortunately I don't have iCloud Drive turn on yet. As I am also on a Mac, I need to wait for the new OSX to arrive to take advantage iCloud Drive fully. But yes, I know that it's already available in Windows.

The new iCloud Drive is a proper icloud storage, think about it as that OneDrive you just got yesterday. On a PC side, as usual you can have a local copy of everything which is sync to the 'cloud'. Unfortunately there is no such 'Web Access' to it like OneDrive has, so you can't really see these file on the web. To make matter worst, there is no such a thing as an iCloud App for iPhone 🙂 You can only access iCloud files via third party app, like Pages, etc. Adding files to iCloud Drive is just a matter of Drag and Drop to the folder (it will be sync to the cloud).

As for My Photo Stream, as far as I know, it's still working as before, and it has nothing to do with the iCloud Drive. I did try just now to upload photos to my Photo Stream via iPhoto in my Mac, but it doesn't work 🙂 Downloading however still works as I wrote on this article:

http://moblivious.com/tips-tricks/photostream-to-pc-or-mac/

To be honest, I never use Photo Stream for anything, I backup all my photos to my Mac and PC on daily basis, and if I want to upload photo to my iPhone, I use email, iTunes sync, or one of the 'proper' Cloud Storage as I mentioned previously.

Sorry I can't be more help.
