Where did photostream and Cameraroll go in iOS 8?

I can't seem to find my photostream or Camera roll albums in iPhone 5 and iPad Air running iOS 8, in addition, the All imported album on iPad, which is the accumulated total images imported to the iPad through the camera connection kit, is now gone, as well.

I have enabled iCloud Drive, but I cannot work out how to use it, can anyone help?

The biggest frustration is actually the missing photostream and camera roll

Simon,

My Photo Stream on PC and Recently Added on iDevices are similar, the difference is, as far as I know, Recently Added can contains other file types, not just Images and Videos (though I can't prove this right now). Recently Added IS the replacement of the old Photo Stream in iOS 8.

Collections contains ALL Images and Videos in your iDevices without the 1000/30 days limit that Recently Added has. It is your Camera Roll now. You can download these photos and videos like we usually did, e.g. from Windows Explorer, using Picasa, or any software that can read USB disk.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'editing in PC', you mean to edit an individual image? or what's in the Collections?

So if Collections contains all images across all devices, how do I access those images from my PC's "iCloud Library" application?

I can access My Photo Stream from there, and since I can delete one from Collections on my iphone and it deletes from ipad, I'm assuming it is accessible remotely - from a PC?!

Incidentally, Recently Added on my iphone is 72, My Photo Stream is 225.

I now have a new issue, as I think I know where I am with Photo Stream.

VIBER - it seems it cannot see photos that the device itself (where Viber is) hasn't taken.

ie. if you upload a photo to My Photo STream via PC, or take one from a different Apple device. Even if it is showing in Collections on the iPhone, it won't appear in the All Photos tab on Viber.

Any one come across this?

Hey~ I'm sorry I don’t have an answer for you-just, perhaps, suggestion-(?)- And, I hope You've got it αℓℓ solved by now… if not, is there any comfort in #'s… bc I saw 200+ have "same" issue…And, Youve got a lot 0F replies, αs well !! …(I haven't updated Yet!) *But* there IS something I'd like to put 0ut There AnD ask You…*if* (well, if ever would be so kind to comply w/this---) *if* something like this would Help You… cuz, I get in similar situations myself, and the 0nly way I can think 0F Is … Allowing Us To Re-Name *0ur* Pictures

. . . I feel confident, *if* they'd allow for that —((& I still canNot understand, in the 1st place, Y-4-G.'s-Sake-we-can’t?))—They d0not 0wn 0ur Pictures! ( maybe ey'd like to Think They d0—"it's a 0 n t r 0 L w/Them—& Its BaD! . . . Anyways, that along w/"Albums" : PhotoStream-0F course, can help [somewhat] narrow it down . . . But, let's face it---We are Αℓℓ Human---and, Yes, That IncludeS You-Apple (what, wasn't iOS 8 like, the biggest 0o0pS, Ever?…need I say M0re?) …anyway, we are αℓℓ guilty 0F "I'ℓℓ move it later on" (2-a-Photo Album …even if (hopefully short-term!) we Must make An Album…for-1-Picture, s0 we can *Find it Later* …then 4get to m0ve It) Yikes!! . . . I haven't read any msg boards in a long time, I don’t know if *ThiS possibility* was ever even discussed! -I'd hope s0–by Now!–. . . Either Way, IMO, it'd simplify ev-thing ! {well, once it's PutBack the Way it Was! …S0, d0 you think that'd help You?-ʏα, -if-allowed-2-do-so?? . . . I *kno* it'd help me--- ---αℓℓ that said, any dvice before updating to iOS 8 –bc is lookin like that's gonna happen before I can get the 6 (nowhere to be found! 0kay, s0~~~Thanks, & would love to hear answers to —if that'd help… and —has it ever been talked about Y-it's Not A possible option for us? Has already sh0t-it-d0wn? Wat do You Think? Is it Worth putting out there? —–--idk-even how, but, where there's a Wίℓℓ---

w0w . . . I never knew PhotoStream was Temp.! Now um really confused … I thought it was basically meant to "BackUp" photos…*But* it doesNOT do it automatically!? … I'ѵe learned If there is group I want, say, to keep (-to move to a new phone-) …that I NeeD to compose the PhotoStream Myself— then, I can make PhotoStreams 0F, My Albums, 4-example…0ℏ yep, A PIA it Is! But . . . we're not given much flexibility or options---what-2-do? I also 'heard' (& maybe this wίℓℓ now make sense-(?)-if true …that w/ iOS 8 our photos αℓℓ wίℓℓ auto backup (( in the cloud, but willNot count against '0ur Space')) . . . That'd make phasing out PhotoStream make more sense, I guess ---esp given it's not an automatic thing to begin with!? . . . Sound right? Have You heard anything about "iPhoto" (& it--being a 'must-have' app…in order to--(?)--w/pictures?? (AnD- the iPhoto App is 100+ мв ( I value My Space! )

now, I'm hearing αℓℓ kinds 0F things! You are the 1st I'ѵe seen mention 'PhotoStream' in *this* way, (temp) ~ so, figured I'd come straight to you!

I'ѵe not yet updated to iOS 8 (5c) but, it's looking like that may have to happen, before I can get my hands on a '6' . . . Any advice? Thanks!

IIn all this confusion, after discussions with Apple senior advisors, I've found two important points:

1. If you delete a photo from an iOS device, Recently Added or Moments, it is gone from Photostream and that device. If it came from another device, it is only on that device. So deleting a photo is pretty much forever, except:

2. If you have a Mac, turn import Photostream on in iPhoto or Aperture.if you don't have a Mac, they are available online or at Apple stores.

No, this wasn't a situation where Apple thought that users were using too much data for Apple ... LOL ...

What Apple is doing is shifting over to your ENTIRE PHOTO LIBRARY will be available to any of your devices ... in the cloud. It's the "iCloud Photo Library" ... which will contain MUCH MORE than your Photo Stream ever did ... :-) ...

I liked Photostream because you could enable it in order to move photos up to the cloud (where you could automate backups from a desktop or other fixed device), but, you could choose not to see every one of your photos, on all your devices, in the same place all the time, if you chose not to. "Photostream" was, if you wanted it to be, a completely separate facet of your iOS or desktop device. If the first round of iOS 8 changes to photo storage are any indication of what is to come, the pleasant and manageable Photostream will become more like PhotoFireHose when iCloud Photo Library is implemented - meaning, if you have it on, then all your photos from everywhere are (unavoidably) present on all your devices, all mushed together into a series of Moments divvied up by some Apple algorithm. And, if you elect to have it off, you lose wireless photo syncing and backup capability.

We'll see. For now I have found the new photo stew to be so hard to manage that I've turned Photostream off on my iPhone for the first time since it was introduced. With luck, 8.1 will in fact give us back the Camera Roll and, further, Apple will allow us to preserve at least our existing level control over the organization of our photos in the new OS X Photos app.
