iOS 8 3G to 2G toggle missing

Hi,

I just upgraded my iPhone 5s 16GB to iOS 8. Everything seems ok but for one problem.

There used to be a "Enable 3G" toggle in the cellular data menu. It is no longer present and has been replaced by "Enable LTE".

The issue is that some carriers do not let customers use 3G unless they've opted for a specific plan. And even if they do, it's limited. So after a particular amount of fixed data, charges pile up quickly.

Here in India, carriers usually don't roll out individual patches/ upgrades. Is there any plan to roll out a Enable 3G switch? Or will the carriers release a specific update for it?

Thanks,

Pranay Mankad

Iphone 5 UK model on o2 - I am also having an issue with the 3g settings being removed in ios 8. my battery is getting drained so quick compared to when i used to have the 3g toggle option. My location service are off and so are most of the background refresh app toggles. also done the usual notifications only that come with apple that are on others are off. i just cant believe apple have removed the 3g toggle in ios 8. hope a fix comes soon as this is not good at all as i keep getting dropped calls and super low signal this needs to be addressed asap as having no option to switch over to 2g instead of 3g can cause allot of customers calling there network provider and blaming them when it is apple that have removed the 3g toggle option. not impressed apple i would prefer to go back to ios 7 because of this.

In India every iOS 8 user is bugged with this issue. We do not have 3G coverage everywhere. So weak signals and call issues will be there wherever we go, unless the phone tries to switch to 2G. Also, there is no wifi wherever we go, which means I have to be on 3G always to receive my imessages and whatsapp pings. My iPhone 5S could not survive for more than 3 hours in 3G.

I had enough already from this hasty update which the developers at apple are preparing for only top cities of the world. Ignoring rest of the users around the world.

I downgraded to iOS 7.1.2. Got my 2G/3G toggle switch back. Let them release an update for the entire world, then I will update it again.

For all those suffering, restore your phone to iOS 7.1.2 as soon as possible.

Facing the same issue.I am using Airtel.
I called their service center, they said that that it was mentioned in the iOS 8 agreement that you wont be able to toggle between 3G and 2G manually, and Apple is to be blamed for this.

There are lots of call drops due to this automatic switching and internet connection keeps breaking all the time.

Didn't expect this from apple.

I feel betrayed. 😢

I am from India...

Facing the same issue on my IPhone 5 after upgrading to iOS8.I am experiencing the worst part which no one can ever expect.I am not able to call any one due to this issue.

I have logged a case with my service provider Vodafone, they have confirmed that this is the issue with Device(OS).Also Contacted apple (online chat) support, they advised to take backup and reset the phone. If the issue still exists then they would suggest for a service.

I have still not decided anything on this.

This is very bad,did not expect this from apple.😠

Hope they will come up with a patch update very soon.😟
