iPhone 5 home button issue iOS 8

iPhone 5 / 64GB / AT&T, previous OS: 7.1.2

After upgrading to iOS 8, single click the home button would sporadically bring up the multitasking screen, instead of going back to the home screen. This appears to happen regardless of what app I single click the home button in.

I have since performed the following:

1) Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings

2) Restore using iTunes, set up as a new phone

The issue persists.

I have then downgraded back to 7.1.2. The issue no longer appears. So this does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Anyone else seeing this?

Mine is still working, but not perfectly. I cleaned the inside of the case and of course, the phone, but I don't see why that would make it work better suddenly, unless there was an electrostatic charge. I wonder if cleaning the phone and case followed by grounding each before putting the phone back in would make a difference.

Just got off the phone with an AppleCare Senior Advisor here in Sweden regarding the problem and the response was terrible ending up with the Advisor just hanging up on me, its a totally unacceptable behavior.

Generally its outrageous how Apple treat there customers. I have a fully functioning and working phone, I update to iOS 8 and it starts behaving like crap and Apple doesnt take any responsibility AT ALL and starts blaming the hardware and that I might have mishandled the phone giving me the problem.

I transfered my phone from the Lifeproof case to the Otterbox Defender I had replaced it with. So far I have had no problems with it in the Otterbox, except for its being clunky. It is a mystery how iOS 8 would cause the problem, but I'm sure it did.It might be due to static electricity? Maybe the iOS can be sensitive to current levels?
