iPhone 5 home button issue iOS 8

iPhone 5 / 64GB / AT&T, previous OS: 7.1.2

After upgrading to iOS 8, single click the home button would sporadically bring up the multitasking screen, instead of going back to the home screen. This appears to happen regardless of what app I single click the home button in.

I have since performed the following:

1) Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings

2) Restore using iTunes, set up as a new phone

The issue persists.

I have then downgraded back to 7.1.2. The issue no longer appears. So this does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Anyone else seeing this?

I don't say this without sensitivity to your situation but when are you folks going to learn restraint and patience?

STOP upgrading to the latest/greatest soooo quickly. Wait! WAIT until the next significant release before updating an iOS that already works well (re: 7.1.2).

Hopefully, you have all learned from this experience.

I learned my lesson back at v6.0.0. 🙂 Patience is truly a virture.

totally agree, but doesn't it feel good somehow to hear that such an awful bug, present for two weeks and not addressed yet, might be resolved, one day? 🙂 ... so I'm sorry, but if someone pops in and tells that a beta version has fixed it, I'm glad to hear it. That bug is extremely upsetting, so as far as I'm concerned, any relevant good news is welcome.

Amazing! So far turning off passcode, doing a hard reset and the turning passcode back on has fixed the issue for me. Have to see if it stays fixed for the long haul.

Wow, so far this seems to have fixed it for me (black iPhone 5, 64 GB). Forcing a new passcode must re-write something that has an effect on this bug. I was getting "Home button bounce" very often, but I've opened/closed dozens of apps without a single problem since doing this. Crossing fingers ...

OK i deactivated the passcode and it seems that its also ok now... Tried it several times and no multitasking. hlw about the others here? Can you try it?

Just deactivating the passcode didn't quite do the trick for me, so I did a hard reset as well and after a few minutes of going in and out of lots of different apps it seems much much better at least. It's happened a few times still, but feels like much much less. Progress?

Personally, I don't see a problem with talking about the beta here. The information is very relevant and it's not like they've giving away trade secrets or bits of code. The developers forum is for official discussion, but someone sharing how it seems fixed in 8.1 beta, I don't see a problem with that.

Clearly you do not have any idea of what this forum is about or what the rules are. Maybe you should take some time to read the TOU....

I am a user just like you. All of us are users on this forum with the occasional exception of Apple employees that respond to posts that have gone unanswered for several days. So, there's that.

Secondly, the developers sign an NDA which requires them to refrain from discussing beta software on the public forums. They have their very own special forum for doing so. So, discussing the next iOS release here is not only a violation of the NDA that the developer signed, it is pointless, since you have no legal way of obtaining that release.

So, whatever your issue is, you should be aware that nobody who volunteers their time here to help people like you have anything to do with Apple. We are all users of Apple devices and computers, we all have other jobs (or are retired, or are in college), we all do other things. Your attitude is obnoxious and unnecessary. Your response is pointless. Your language is abusive.

Maybe you want to get a little more familiar with the community and the members before striking out at people.

Gail,

I don't believe you have standing to police the alleged breach of Apple Developer NDA by another member, as that NDA is between that member and Apple. If Apple chooses to enforce the NDA, then so be it; but your comment about NDA is entirely irrelevant to the original issue (but RoHHSz's report is).

If I remember correctly, you are not even experiencing the observed issue discussed in this thread. While your report of non-issue is still a valuable data point, please stop cluttering up this thread with non relevant information such as your comments about NDA.

Now, from what I gather, there is no reproducible user-performed remedy to this problem as of yet. I also have not heard back from Apple with regarding the support case I filed. Since I no longer owned the iPhone 5 that had this problem, I'm not able to follow up. My (somewhat optimistic) guess is that it will get fixed in future iOS releases
