iPhone 5 home button issue iOS 8

iPhone 5 / 64GB / AT&T, previous OS: 7.1.2

After upgrading to iOS 8, single click the home button would sporadically bring up the multitasking screen, instead of going back to the home screen. This appears to happen regardless of what app I single click the home button in.

I have since performed the following:

1) Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings

2) Restore using iTunes, set up as a new phone

The issue persists.

I have then downgraded back to 7.1.2. The issue no longer appears. So this does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Anyone else seeing this?

I Am having the exact same problem. I have the iPhone 5 model number A1429. When I press the home button once it goes to the multitasking screen. This only happens sporadically not all the time and it's very annoying. This did not happen on the previous version of iOS. When I pressed the button once it would return to the home screen, twice it would go to the mitltaskinch screen. This is the way it should have stayed. Hope there is a fix for this soon.

I have an iPhone 5 but don't use a case and I still have the same problem. I know this doesn't solve the problem but if you are stuck in the multitasking pane you can go to the far left screen to get back to the home screen. Still a pain but it will at least get you to where you want to go.

Also there's new a thread on Reddit on this problem. If enough people upvote it might get Apple's attention. Just search home button multitasking bug (i don't think I can leave a link in a thread).

Hi guys,

I have a Iphone 4s (2,5 years old) and I had exactly the same issue:

After upgrading to iOS 8, single click the home button would sporadically bring up the multitasking screen, instead of going back to the home screen. This appears to happen regardless of what app I single click the home button in.

In ios7 everything was fine (going back to IOS7 is not possible anymore)

I have tried really everthing:

-recalibrating the home button

-cleaning from dust (with electric toothbrush)

-"soft" and "hard reseting"

-reinstall IOS8 with clean ipsw file from internet

-update to IOS8.0.2

...But nothing really works.

Finally I came to following solution:

I noticed that after pressing my home button it slowly springs back to its default position (in comparision to my friend's iphone).

Therefore I replaced the home button (~50€)...Now my Iphone works like charm

Maybe the new IOS8 is more sensitive to this spring force.
