How do you downgrade ?!!!!!

The only way I know is to retire from an iTunes backup which you ideally should have done prior to an OS upgrade. Earlier iOS versions are not available OTA to my knowledge.

At this point, it is not possible to downgrade from 8.0.x to 7.1.2 anymore. Apple has stopped signing iOS 7.1.2. a couple days ago (yesterday or the day before).

It is now impossible to downgrade from iOS 8 to any earlier version of iOS.

my white iphone 5 has the probleM I updated thru wifi and use a otter box had the battery changed out 1 day before the update via a recall

my wife has a iphone 5 black updated threw iTunes uses a otter box no battery change out and it does not have a problem

I have an iPhone 5 in a Lifeproof case. I backed up to iTunes and upgraded using iTunes. I did so for speed during heavy user downloading and to have a backup with iOS 7, which I might go back to.

I'm not a programmer, so I am guessing how the OS knows what device it is operating, but I suspect it is serial number related. So maybe there are some errors in the code related to serial numbers? I have no idea. I'm guessing our devices think that they are iPhone 6 plus devices and flip out, not being able to interpret a double click for starters.

I have spent almost 2 hours on apple chat tech support... They say they are very intrested in my problem and want a engineer to call me back tomorrow to find out more if its a software or just my phone..

Earlier iOS versions are not available period. Your iTunes (or iCloud for that matter) backup does not back up the iOS itself. Only the data. So restoring to a backup will not restore your previous iOS version.

You have updated to iOS 8.0.2, right? Some posters are writing that this has fixed their Home button issue, so if you have not updated to iOS 8.0.2, I would highly recommend that you do so - preferably via iTunes.

You can also recalibrate your Home button:

1. Open a core app like Weather, Stocks, or Calculator

2. Press and hold the Power button until "Slide to Power Off" appears, then release the button

3. Press and hold the Home button until "Slide to Power Off" disappears

4. When the Home screen redisplays, the Home key should be recalibrated

Anyone tried switch phones with your husband or wife.. Seeing is the problem follows your backup would mean if it's a phone issue or software

I Have upgraded to 8.0.2 and re-calibrated... No joy.

That's what Apple support told me to do when an OS upgrade trashed my wife's contacts. You wipe the phone and without your internet connection where would the new iOS come from?

How do you reset your phone without being connected to the internet either via wifi or cellular

That might have done it for me. In step two you mention releasing the power key prior to pressing and holding the home key. i was holding them down together after the slide to power off appeared.

Spoke too soon. It's reverting back to instability.

Amazing! So far turning off passcode, doing a hard reset and the turning passcode back on has fixed the issue for me. Have to see if it stays fixed for the long haul.
