I did 5 speed tests on each device.

PC averaged 90 down and 23 up.

iPhone 5 (iOS 7) averaged 22 down and 23 up. (I've NEVER had a download speed higher than 25)

iPad Mini 2 (iOS 8) averaged .10 down and 3 up.

Reset Network on the iPad ran 5 more tests. I averaged 25 down and 23 up. I haven't touched my router settings or channels at all. I'm still on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Still running good so far. I updated to iOS 8 originally over wifi and had the issues. I then restored it to 7.1.2 and then downloaded iOS 8 through iTunes and did an update/restore. I've tried putting it to sleep and restarting the iPad and the wifi is still working. I will test it constantly tonight and if it stops working at all I'll bring it back down to iOS 7 and stay there for awhile.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Unable to Connect After iOS Update - saw this solution on another post.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7-8 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Step 1: Download the iOS 7.1.2 firmware for your device (Google it).

Step 2: Turn off Find My iPhone on your device if you have it enabled. Go to SettingsiCloud, and disable the Find My iPhone switch.

Step 3: Connect your device to iTunes.

Step 4: Open the device page on iTunes, and hold the Option/Shift key and click the Restore button. Find the IPSW firmware file that you downloaded in Step 1, select it.

Step 5: A pop-up box will warn you that the restore will delete all data from the device. If you are okay with the restore, click the Restore button. Wait until your device restores, and enjoy your iOS 7.1.2 firmware.

I am having huge WiFi speed decreases AFTER using the App Store, for whatever reason.

I first restored to iOS 8 on my iPad Mini Retina 2 and performed 3 OOKLA Speedtests. Mpbs d/l results were VERY fast at first: 32.45, 43.95 and 47.70

THEN went to App Store and downloaded WATCH ESPN app. Opened the app and streaming video was REALLY sluggish and jittery.

RE-tested WiFi speed with OOKLA and D/L speed had dropped all the way to 2.91 mpbs

From 47.70 mpbs down to 2.91

WOW

**Tried to rollback to iOS 7.1.2 and followed all the steps but iTunes said there was a problem and sure enough, iPad was very buggy. Went back to iOS 8 but still having the huge WiFi speed dropoff. Have restored fully and reset network connections 6 times....no improvement. Apple will have to fix this.**

I did a lot of testing with my iPad Air, which developed the slow wifi issue after iOS 8 upgrade. It appears to be something to do with using the 5 GHz band. I have the 5th Gen AEBS setup with separate SSIDs for each of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. When I switch to 2.4, everything is fine. Switch back to 5 GHz and no joy. I've done this repeatedly with the same result. My iPhone 5s seems fine on the 5 GHz band. There is a difference in WiFi between iPads and iPhones: the Air and the Retina Mini both have 802.11n MIMO, whereas the 5s does not. It might just be a coincidence, but generally in engineering, coincidences usually aren't.

I also can see a difference in bit rates, which supports what I've seen when switching between bands. Normally (iOS 7), I would see 300mbps and not vary much during use. After the upgrade to iOS 8, it might initially show 300, but as soon as the connection is used, the bit rate drops dramatically - less than 50 (I've seen 15), and doesn't recover (back to 300). When using 2.4 GHz, it is solid at or near 150. I just finished restoring the Air back to 7.1.2 and the 5GHz connection is back to being stable at 300mbps (maybe fluctuates down to 200, but always comes back to 300mbps), and performance is normal.

I hope they find the trouble soon, as I really like the improvements and refinements in iOS 8. Meanwhile, either I stick with 7.1.2 on my Air, or upgrade and restore again to iOS 8 and leave it connected to the slower 2.4 GHz band until it is fixed.

Note: I have a second iPad Air that acts exactly the same as mine (completely different set of apps; different Apple ID). It works for a couple minutes, the dies - slow or no connection. Data rate drops down to 15 and doesn't recover. Also, I will note that the signal strength stays constant while the bit rate drops or fluctuates.

Not saying there isn't something else going on either. Just reporting here what I've found, with my router and devices.

Thinking back over the last few days, however, and I do remember doing a re-join on my rMBP (mid-2012) because of slow performance (nothing like what I've seen on the iPad Air). I haven't seen any odd traffic on the LAN, so it's hard to say why this instance would have anything to do with what I've seen on the iPad Air.

The iPad Mini with Retina also has MIMO, so it should work (or rather not work) like the Air. So using that theory definitely doesn't explain why your 5s is having problems. Sorry - out of ideas for this evening.

I have been having the same problems with 5Gz Wifi and iOS8 on my IPad Mini with Retina.

I can report that the suggestion to change the 5Gz Wifi to Auto has fixed the problem. My Band was set to 40 prior to switching to Auto and now Band 149 has automatically been selected by my router. Since I changed the setting, l have had no problems.

Thanks to whoever posted this fix as my iPad was effectively useless on 5Gz Wifi prior to the change.

It's been a few days now and I've had 100% success with my Airplane Mode workaround. I can't prevent the issues from happening, but at least the workaround works when it happens and thanks to command center, it's fairly easy to perform. Just make sure you do not do it too quickly.

I feel that short of going back to iOS 7, most of the solutions proposed are placebos and won't last, so go with the one that is the least intrusive workaround. There is no need to change anything on the router, the problem is clearly with the iPad Mini. Using the 2.4ghz band is probably impractical for most people. Most of these "solutions" appear to work because the connection on the iPad is reset, but I'm pretty convinced none of them lasts.

Sep 21, 2014 12:20 PM in response to wombat2k

Agreed. Just placebos. I just restored my phone and setup as a new phone, no luck. My router is at 2.4 Ghz, so no 5 Ghz issues there.

Airplane mode, forgetting network/reconnecting does not work. I have to switch off the router, before **** things worse.

Not sure if the actual browsing speed has reduced or not (once connected :-). Don't think so though.

Apple & Wifi relationship has always been rocky. There have been issues (not for me) but others, in every single release.

My previous iphone 4, iphone 5s, sisters ipad 2, has the same problem but only connecting to the router provided by here ISP. Her ipad works perfectly well at my home.

I think the downgrade window has now closed. I am going to check. There's nothing in iOS 8 that warrants me to live with this issues.

Sep 21, 2014 12:41 PM in response to abhivish

Reseting my router settings was the only thing that worked, and that appeared to be a temporary fix. None of the solutions from this thread have worked.

The very weird thing is that my entire wireless network appeared to be effected. Even other Macs and iPhones (iOS 7) were then having trouble connecting to the wifi. I finally just turned wifi off on my iPad (iOS 8) and everything is back to normal.
