My wife is having the same problem, but I am not. The only difference we can find is that the problem began after we opened iBooks and found that the store was offering several free books. One book she selected wouldn't completely install, and her iBooks began crashing. She finally gave up and went to sleep. I'm guessing that if she is able to delete that one book from iCloud, she should be back to normal. I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

I think I might have found the answer. Switch to airplane mode. Open iIbooks and tap My Books. At the top of the page in the middle tap the little triangle and a drop down box appears. Tick Books and at the bottom of the box turn on 'Hide iCloud books' and your books should appear on the bookshelves. If they're not all there, tap the Library icon at top left and you should see a list of all your books which you can view in four different ways. I switched off airplane mode after that and restarted my iPad, and now allis fine. Hope this helps you.

I have been having the iBooks crashing problem in iOS 8.x since I installed it on my iPad Air. I tried bunches of different things but it would only work without crashing in Airplane mode.

Today I did a complete restore via iTunes and set it up as a new iPad. I did not restore my backup to it. I simply set it to sync all my books, music, apps and photos in iTunes and when it finished syncing iBooks is no longer crashing on me.

I don’t know if this will work for everyone/anyone else. I’m also using Yosemite and iTunes 12, so that might also make a difference.

I am not sure why but hiding iCloud Books did the trick. My iBooks was getting slower and slower over the past few weeks. Then last week, I would open it, it would stall, and then crash. I deleted a bunch of apps I no longer use. I kept doing a hard reset. Nothing worked until I clicked on the button "Hide iCloud books'. Not sure if this will be the permanent fix but for now it did the trick. Thanks for the suggestion!
