Does the ipad run slower on ios8.1 that on 7.1.2?
Indeed, it worked for me just now while I was not in WiFi. So for me the iCloud trick works sometimes when I'm off WiFi and always when I'm on WiFi. But let's hope that with tge new iOS 8.1 release it does not metter anymore.
Yes, my ipad2 is a bit slower with 8.0, and like the others I keep losing my ATT service. I haven't tried the newest update yet. I am waiting for more feedback this time.
i downloaded 8.1 on Monday. Today I still have service...continual..no rebooting, going to iCloud, etc. iPad appears to be running smoothly. Now, I'm having problems downloading Yosemite to my macbook!!!!!
IOS 8.1 seems to have done the trick for me too. 36 hrs so far and no problems. If the connection does drop I will let you know. Fingers crossed it's fixed.
8.1 seems to have fixed it, so far, iPad is still slow...
Hi All
I believe they have fixed it. 2 days continuously no issue. For those that didn't see my earlier posting. I went to their feedback channel and raised the issue and also pointed to this discussion forum that many people in the world are facing this problem and not just me. A support staff David contacted me and i was told to download a "tracer" to log my activities for 24 hours. The data was send back for them to find a fix to the problem.
Not sure if Apple look into this forum because till now i do not see any response at all. But if you do have a problem, go to their feedback channel. At least i know someone might call you.
It runs much, much slower.
1. Boot time is 5 - 10 minutes and it sometimes cycles 3 times through the Apple logo sequence while booting. That really made the "needs a reboot to get cellular service back a really untenable option".
2. Tapping the power button sometimes takes 30 - 60 seconds before the screen comes on when it is sleeping. Same thing when tapping the home button - it can take 30 - 60 seconds before anything happens, in fact, it sometimes times out and goes to sleep before it responds to the home button being pressed.
3. Mutitasking pinch almost never works anymore, either, and when it does, it can take 5 - 10 seconds before it responds.
4. Typing is very slow. It can take 3 or 4 seconds before typing a field into a form in Safari or a recipient's email address catches up with what you've typed.
On my wife's iPad 3, my iPad Mini, and my iPhone 5, only #3 and #4 above seem to apply, but it's still slow enough that I'd go back. I've only found one benefit so far to using IOS 8 - using the iPad Mini as a speakerphone. In retrospect, I'd undo the upgrade if it was possible. Limited benefits and so slow it's frustrating.
IOS 8.1 does seem to have fixed the problem with the cellular access - 2 days with no loss of service and still going!
Yep, I dowloaded it yesterday and my ipad2 is definitely slower and more app crashes. Also similar catch up typing that you described. No loss of service though, yet. I guess Apple is determined to wear us out, so we will buy new iPads. Hopefully they will step back and refocus on customer service.
i thought i had not had any problems since downloading 8.1 but last night discovered my photos have disappeared from my iPad... have not idea where they are. bummer.
I Have not lost service since going to 8.1 which is a good thing. The ipad is much slower though. My photos were there. Had you back up to itunes? Maybe you can bring them back from there.
Updating to 8.1 did not solve my connectivity problem for my IPad 2 with Verizon.
Seems like ios8.1 helped but not for everyone. Some people still get no service and some say ipad is running slower. My mind is made up, i rolled back to ios 7.1.2 and am very happy with my fast service and no loss of service.
My ipad 2 has AT&T, but I don't know why it would make a difference. When I was having the problem, I tapped on settings, and icloud once or twice, then the upper corner said "searching" and it would reconnect. It was a nuisance but it worked. I have been OK since the latest update.
