No service on iPad 2 GSM after upgrade to iOS 8
Anybody have the same issue or a solution. I have done all the support tips restore etc.

I have been following this issue since upgrading to IOS8 and nothing has worked has worked as a permanent fix. However Bugwigs workaround of going to settings and touching iCloud works, my iPad 2 reconnects to my service provider, O2. As Bugwigs says, much quicker than having to restart my iPad. Needless to say the connection does not last and before too long the connection is lost again. So, if this works for most people with this problem it should steer Apple in the right direction when looking for a fix. Lets hope that fix comes sooner rather than later.
I came across this thread as I had a slightly different scenario. GSM iPad 2 that had no SIM. Updated to 8.0.0 then 8.0.2 and everything was fine on wifi only.
Couple of days later I bought a monthly SIM for a trip (Three UK). 3G worked for a few hours, then "No Service". Power off didn't fix it. Reboot (home and power) didn't fix it. Forum advice to reset the network settings did fix it for a few hours, but then it would go to "No Service" again.
The I found this thread and some people here found connecting to iTunes on the PC solved the problem, and it appears to have worked for me. Now I slightly understand why a new SIM/device might need some kind of sync or settings configuration, (although I don't see why it can't be OTA), but perhaps the iOS 8 upgrade has cleared something in the settings that requires a re-sync.
Anyway, I have another problem introduced by iOS8. When either my iPad 2 or iPad Mini do not have a SIM inserted, I constantly get messages "No SIM installed". This never happened on previous versions except once at startup (which is understandable). I've even turned off cellular before removing the SIM and the messages still appear. But I guess that's for another discussion...
It's my understanding apple is making some big announcement tomorrow. Rumor has it, maybe a new iPad Is coming out. our problem is not even on the stove, much less the back burner. Good news is oddly, I've had service for over 24 hours with no special actions on my part other than rebooting yesterday morning.
I spoke too soon. It lasted about four time longer than before, but is now once again showing "No Service" 😟
I'm guessing 8.0.3 will be out soon...
I had same experience. Sometimes I reboot and still no connectivity, if I turn cellular data off, then back on that works - SOMETIMES.
Followed the comment rfc60 from above.
Was siting on "No Service" Went into iCloud settings. Find My iPad was off (I thought it was on, but I've reset so many settings, so hey ho).
Turned Find My iPad on, and the service immediately went "Searching..." then re-joined the Three network with 3 dots and 3G.
Will wait and see how long it lasts and will post further results.
The longest working solution suggested in this tread, is to go to setting, and just click icloud. It searches in the "no service" area, and then reconnects. Yesterday it lasted almost all day, so it's got to be some missing piece with the icloud. I do agree with you, even at $600+ they consider our devices disposable. 18,000 people complaining, and that's just on this forum, and not a peep from Apple.
In terms of root cause, iCloud seems unlikely (or at least isn't the only cause). I don't have iCloud and my cellular goes down repeatedly and needs a reboot to reestablish it. Clicking on the iCloud button just presents the form to enter iCloud account credentials and does not affect my cellular when it is down.
I am told through the grapevines that this will be fixed soon in the next upcoming release of iOS 8.
Also I noticed, the trick of going to iCloud settings to get back the 3G connection without a restart only works while you are connected to WiFi. If you don't have WiFi, tough luck, you have to shut down and restart.
Have to say that's not my experience. I use the iPad in an office with no wifi access (there is wifi, but I have no access, and have never attempted to connect), and when it goes "No Service" I simply go into iCloud Settings and check the status of "Find My iPad". Just the looking part usually kicks 3G into life, don't have to change anything. Haven't had to shutdown or restart since I started checking iCloud (It's still a pretty poor fault however, it had better be fixed in 8.1).
Has anyone tried ios 8.1? If so did it fix the no service issue, and was the ipad still running slower?
I installed it yesterday. So far so good. Obviously the iPad had to reboot, so I can't conclusively say that it's fixe yet, but on my iPad this has been the longest period that it stayed connected since the iOS upgrade.
That's good news. (hopefully) Please keep us posted. I think I will give it some time, just in case it fixes one thing and breaks something else.
I upgraded to 8.1 this morning. Its now 8 hours later and so far I have not lost my cellular signal. its the longest I've gone without loosing the signal, so here's holding thumbs that this has sorted out the issue.
