Location services completely grey since ios8!

Dear apple users

I was happy to install the new ios8 update via itunes on my 4S. After the update i saw the location services were disabled and that the button is completely grey.

Even in restrictions the location was disabled, i cancelled all restriction but it didn't help!

I did a complete recovery of my phone and put the backup back from just before updating to ios8, but still doens't help!!

I'm leaving for vacation tonight and need my phone for my navigation apps!!!

Please help!!

Thanks in advance from Belgium!

Hi, I was getting crazy and none of the solutions worked.

Then, right before dressing one of those crazy people's shirt, i figured out that under

Setting > General > Restrictions > down to the box Privacy, there's a Share My Location forgotten setting, mostly mistaken by the Location Services on top of this box...

To regain control, you mus get back to the top of Restrictions, enable Restrictions, go back to the Privacy box , click on Share My Location and then select Allow Changes

There are lots of duplicated controls and almost hidden features on iOS 8.

I believe Apple is deviating too much from its UI origins. They should read the original manuals again and again. While Windows 8 is making thiings easier, iOS and OSX are making it harde at every new edition.

Jobs shouldn't have died...

Jose E R Azevedo - you just kept me from pulling my hair out in clumps. I tried EVERYTHING else in this thread, and nothing worked until this. THIS WORKED!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Best. Christmas. Present. EVER.

OyyVeyy, glad I was helpful! I was getting crazy too!!

Another day I was playing with an old iPhone 3G. Everything was SO much easier to find. I can't understand why software companies, in a certain point of their lives, star to screw things, overcomplicating what was easy and worked.

Contrary to those who work there, we don't live to understand OSX or iOS8 or else. We just want these things to work and do what we want them to do. In an unobtrusive way. like it used to be. Apple has LOTS of manuals on Graphic User Interface and man x machine relationship. These must be greek to new workers (and some older ones too...).

Have a great Christmas and an amzing 2015! My best!

This is the solution that helped me.

If you go into Settings > General, I had tried going into Restrictions and turning them on and making sure Location Services was turned on in there, Allowing Changes, and that Share My Location was turned on in there also. Made no difference. My Friend Finder still had location services grayed out.

It wasn't until I scrolled all the way to the bottom of Restrictions > Location Services and tapped on System Services that I saw the problem. There is ANOTHER Share My Location switch in there which was turned off. (Really??? Why does there have to be two?) Talk about counter-intuitive. Since when did Apple UI/UX stoop to the every-man-for-himself-go-find-the-buried-setting standard of Microsoft? Shameful.

and what if i dont want to share my location?

my location services are switched on and grayed out. And i dont want to have my location looked at

one thing is for certain; the more options Apple adds, the more crossed wires get built into iOS

i dont want location services, and even i notice with all possible location spying deactivated on my other devices, when i take a photo, and upload to dyptic or instagram, it still knows exactly where i am

Big Advertising Data Miner Brother is here for good.

Hate it. Im thinking of going back to film camera and a normal old telephony based mobile phone from 1999

Yesterday in iMessage is said to a friend "ill send you an invoice"

Next thing i go to Facebook and see ads served on me which say 'invoice management services'

So how does facebook know what private chats i am having in iMessage?

Location services completely grey since ios8!
