Photo/iPhoto crashes since iOS 8 (Migration issue)

I put iOS 8 on my iPad and hit "Migrate" to get iPhoto pics into Photo. It started, then stopped and crashed iPhoto.

I tried it many times, from Photo as well as iPhoto.

I've rebooted, deleted iPhoto, nothing works.

Even now iPhoto is gone, Photo opens, tries to "Migrate" and crashes.

Same issue here. I had already deleted iPhoto from my iPhone. I decided to try reloading iPhoto on my iPhone. As soon as it was finished, I launched Photos again and the "Migrating photos from iPhoto" progress bar finished and Photos opened without crashing. I didn't even have to launch iPhoto - just reloading it on the phone allowed the migration to complete. Hope this helps someone else.

And uninstall the iPhoto. So afraid the same crash happen again

But uninstalling iPhoto will delete the iPhoto library on your device and all photos, that are only in iPhoto will be gone. I'd try that only as a last resort. Reinstalling iOS will take longer, but will be less intrusive, if you make a backup to iCloud or iTunes, before you do that.

Before uninstalling iPhoto, try, if disabling the Photo Stream makes a migration possible.

Hi,

My scenario

i select iPhoto and start migrate and it trigger migration but never complete and crash the photo like others

and I remove the iPhoto thought it will stop the migration process but it did not. Try installing the apps but found not available in iOS 8.0 anymore.

Found the solution here

i did the below steps

1. Remove photo stream and icloud photo sharing

2. Open photo apps, still did the same thing and chrash

3. Double click the home button and bring up the apps that running on the background. Found photo still running, swipe and remove the photo apps

4. Click photo again. This time migration started and complete (even I have remove the iphoto)

5. Open photo and now working as normal

hope this help

I had a slightly different solution. While iPhoto was perpetually crashing on iOS I scrolled to the bottom of my photos before it crashed (I had more time to scroll to the bottom when I first opened the app after rebooting). I saw that it was downloading 1000s of photos and, each time I started the app again, a few hundred more photos had been imported. So I think that the problem was related to the sheer volume of photos being pushed to my phone.

My solution wasn't to reinstall anything but to keep on opening the application -- it took a while, but it just imported about 2000 photos and, once it got down to the 300 photo mark, no more crashes happened.

I'm still dead in the water on this issue. I've tried turning off, turning on the photo stream and photo sharing options. Doesn't matter. Every time I open Photos, it tries to migrate 92 pics and and then crashes before it has migrated the first one. When I click on iPhotos, it asks if I want to migrate and when I click on it, it just crashes.

So is my only option to restore the OS and then reinstall my backup? Will reinstalling the backup just recreate the problem again?

Thanks,

Mark
