My volume buttons didn't work when I updated, but there is a sound slider on the swipe-up menu on the bottom of the screen that worked to turn my sound back on. Hope it's that easy for you! 🙂

I could have cried after spending DAYS trying to sort this problem out, now its sorted thanks to you. I am new to Apple and this is my first post. Thank you so much for taking the time to post the solution on here. I looked on youTube and there are nuts on there suggesting you blow air into the headphone port, use a small screw driver, even a Stanley knife. I took into a repair shop and the guy said he could fix it but it would cost me £65 (I cannot afford that) so I had given up until someone gave me this site to go onto. Once again thank you from an 72 year old as I am new to this technical world (and I love it as I had no idea of what I was missing).

Not sure if this will work for anyone else. I was going nuts as the sound on my ipad air was working for everything except the game Star Wars Commander. I could, however, hear sound if I used my headphones. Just by dumb luck, I happened to switch my ringer slider from OFF to ON, and the sound now works. Maybe for some reason the sound for some programs are linked to the ringer volume? I know it doesn't make sense, but it did work for me. Good luck!

HOLY CRAP! After weeks of doing without sound, then fighting with it for HOURS tonight, doing EVERY SINGLE THING that was suggested by others, tons of on/off, etc. etc. etc., And as I was poised at that very moment to erase the entire phone, THIS ONE SIMPLE THING WORKED!!!! THANK YOU!

Btw, don't you think it would be nice if Apple put-out/posted their own solutions to update problems, just as soon as they realize and subsequently solve them? Why the **** do we have to go hunting and pecking and asking each other, in hopes that one lucky ******* has hit upon a remedy?! Come on Apple, get with the program, I'm becoming disillusioned with your methods!

Signed, 5-hours to find this one simple fix. 😠

Ipad retina with no sliding button on the side.

On the lower edge of your iPad screen, swipe up with one finger. This pulls up a little mini menu with some controls (they call this menu the 'control center' if you ever wanted to know its name)User uploaded file.

***Make sure the 'silencer' button in THIS MENU is not highlighted (the bell symbol with the slash through it). Other buttons and settings are NOT going to change this one setting. You must change this one separately. ***

(So in this picture, the bell is not highlighted and their sound should work fine --if all other switches and sound settings are right--check this thread because there are other reasons besides this...check them all). If that bell is highlighted, touch it to UNHIGHLIGHT it and get your sound back.)

I could only hear headphone sound before and 'some' videos, but not all videos.

Now I can hear everything even without headphones.

(Make sure you can access this little menu by enabling the swipe functions....just check that if you're not getting this little control center menu to come up)

Hope that helps!
