I'm attempting to install the icloud windows PC 4.0.3.56. Everything runs great right up to the end, when I get this message. Any ideas?

I couldn't remove the 3.1 iCloud program. I got the same error presented while trying to remove it as did from trying to update to v4. When I tried to manually delete the files they were in use. Even after I removed all other apple software with no errors.

I ended up reformatting the one PC that wouldn't take the update. I only had problems on 1 of my 3 windows 8.1 machines. The only thing I can think of that I did on the one that didn't work was clear the old windows updates/system update backups through disk cleanup advanced. Maybe apple saves data there required to update or remove the program. iCloud v4 installed fine on a fresh copy of 8.1.

how do i remove all files when there is none to remove as i have looked throughout computer and all traces of icloud 3.1 software has been removed / uninstalled but yet in control panel i still see a remanent icon of icloud there. and i have rebooted and nothing and then go try to update to icloud 4.0 and still get the error message. no matter what i have tried everything has failed. any suggestions? also where and how do i get a copy download version of icloud 3.1 again? so i can see about reinstalling it and seeing what happens?

OK --- FINALLY got iCloud v4.0 to install on my computer. Heres what I did to fix the problem.

1) Deleted iCloud 3.1

2) Downloaded iCloud v4.0 from this site and didnt use the Apple Software Update

3) Removed - c:\program files\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files will deleted)

4) Removed - c:\program files x86\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files will deleted)

5) Installed iCloud v4.0

* NOT sure if it works 100% yet or not - but at least its installed.

I was able to solve the problem with the following -

1) Uninstall iCloud 3.1 Control Panel (You'll need to log out first if logged in to iCloud)

2) Download iCloud v4.0 manually - not Apple Software Update

3) delete all files and folders in c:\program files\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files and folders will delete - those currently in use)

4) delete all files and folders in c:\program files x86\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files and folders will delete - those currently in use)

5) Restart the computer

6) delete remaining files and folders in c:\program files\ common files\apple\internet services

7) delete remaining files and folders in c:\program files x86\ common files\apple\internet services

8) Installed iCloud v4.0

Another very, very unhappy Apple customer, same problem! I'm so frustrated right now, no matter what I do I get that error message. I cleared my PC from any Apple software and even created a new (Admin) Win7 Account to log in. I'm about to get rid of all my Apple electronics, just because no one is willing to help!! This is carrying through to Ver. 4 of iCloud, which I'm trying right now... still that error message. Is there even Apple Admin on this site? There is thousand having this exact problem with no fix from Apple! By the time they wake up with a fix, they will have lost thousands of clientele... seems it doesn't matter to them. So be it then!

So yeah I'm contacting the Vendor, like the message say, but there is is nobody at the other end of the line!!!

Naughtybynature’s suggestion does indeed work. Running Windows 8.1 Pro.

Had the same error: “There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.”

On 64-bit Windows the path is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services.

The Control Panel applet from 3.1 is gone, replaced by an executable, iCloud.exe (It’s in the folder above.) Here I had to enable iCloud Drive:
